The regular rider of the Mootasadir colt suffered a serious accident Tuesday morning, while the Argentine runners are set to ship this thursday

Iván Monasterolo escaped what could have been a far more serious incident. The jockey sustained a fracture to his right wrist following a training accident Tuesday morning at Campo 2, but initial reports suggest the injury, while significant, avoided further complications.
The rider—currently enjoying a strong run of form—was working alongside Kevin Banegas when a loose horse, having unseated its rider, bolted backward along the fourth track at San Isidro, colliding with their set. Monasterolo was thrown into the air and suffered the injury upon landing. Surgery remains under evaluation.
The setback rules him out of riding Thor Medina in the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1), scheduled for Sunday, April 26 at Monterrico.
In his absence, trainer Eduardo Acossano has confirmed that the son of Mootasadir, fresh off his victory in the Gran Premio Miguel A. Martínez de Hoz (G1), will be partnered by Osvaldo Alderete, who will be making his international debut.
Both Thor Medina and The Gladiator’s Hat (Hat Ninja), Argentina’s two representatives in the race, are set to depart this afternoon from Campo 2 at San Isidro around 5 p.m., with their flight to Lima scheduled for 8 p.m.—though delays are not uncommon. Arrival is expected early Friday morning.
The Argentine contingent will be the first international group to arrive in Peru. Horses from Uruguay and Chile are scheduled to travel on Sunday, while Brazilian runners are expected to ship on Monday.
Elsewhere, Huber Bocanegra is likely to take the mount on Manyuz (Run Away and Hide) in the Latinoamericano, while Puppi’s Husband (Fortify) is, for now, expected to be ridden by Víctor Salazar, with Chilean rider Óscar Ulloano longer in contention for the mount. Both runners represent Stud Jet Set, whose main hope, Argentine-bred Padre Roberto (Hurricane Cat), will be ridden by stable jockey Carlos Trujillo.
