Once again, a key juvenile stakes has been sidelined; the Clásico Mesa del Senado (L) and the Clásico Eduardo Jarafill out the remaining stakes schedule

Tuesday's confirmation stage brought disappointing news as Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo announced the cancellation of the Clásico Carlos Pezoa (1000 m). The juvenile contest, which was intended to be the centerfold of the program scheduled for Friday, April 10, was scrapped despite all five original entrants being confirmed by their respective connections.
The decision has sparked significant frustration among owners. Historically, Palermo has often proceeded with such stakes despite small fields, but the reversal on this occasion highlights the growing difficulty racetracks face in filling juvenile fixtures. The situation suggests a pressing need for a modernized approach to programming, moving away from legacy formulas that have remained unchanged for decades.
The week’s premier event now shifts to the turf at San Isidro on Saturday for the Clásico Olavarría (G3-1000 m). Open to fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up, the field remained largely intact with only Rollanda (Bodemeister) opting out.
The 12-horse lineup features: Arkansas City (Angiolo), Bichita de Luz (Fragotero), Enjoy Dancing (Hi Happy), Forever Rim (Remote), Free Prize (Winning Prize), La Combatiente (Le Blues), La Meninha (Le Blues), Lissette Island (Lizard Island), Pretoriana (Daniel Boone), Save Your Tears (Full Mast), Tibetana (Maranesi), and Verdadera Pass (Distinctiv Passion).
Saturday’s card also includes the Clásico Mesa del Senado (L-1400 m), a handicap on the diagonal turf course. The confirmed field includes Approval Cat (Endorsement), Brasilero Francisco (Lizard Island), El Resero Con Capa (Angiolo), Midnight Runner (Forge), Río New (Hurricane Cat), Stormy River (Le Blues), and Viejo Varieté (Qué Vida Buena).
Looking ahead to Wednesday, April 15, the spotlight turns to the dirt for the Clásico Eduardo Jara (1100 m). The veteran Despacito (Sabayón) will shoulder a massive 64 kg. top weight against a five-horse syndicate including Bingo Song (Alcindor, 57 1/2), Flying to the Sky (Señor Candy, 56 1/2), Naimabad (Il Campione, 52), Sea (Daddy Long Legs, 53), and Viejo Cuchara (Il Campione, 53 1/2).
