The OSAF is outlining a four-year plan; a high-rated Latinoamericano and strong commercial backing highlighted for the race at Monterrico

LIMA, Peru (From a special correspondent).- Just hours ahead of a new running of the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1), anticipation reached its peak on Saturday with the official press conference at Hipódromo de Monterrico, where authorities and key figures outlined the scope of an edition already shaping up as one of the strongest in recent years.

Held in the Members’ Stand, the event featured OSAF president Raúl Lima Neto, Jockey Club del Perú chairman Danilo Chávez Abad, and OSAF general manager Oscar Bertoletti, before a large gathering of local, regional, and international media.

The presentation included a detailed review of the work carried out in recent months, particularly regarding logistics and coordination for the arrival of international runners—an essential factor in ensuring the race’s competitive level.

One of the key highlights was the overall quality of the field. The decision to stage the race on turf at Monterrico was emphasized as a decisive factor in elevating the event’s profile.

The numbers support that claim: pre-race ratings range between 110 and 115 for colts and horses, with fillies and mares around 108–109—figures that place this edition among the strongest and most competitive in the history of the Latinoamericano.

That parity is, in fact, one of its greatest attractions. There is no clear standout, and the gap between the leading contenders is minimal, opening the door to an unpredictable outcome.

The conference also highlighted the strong institutional and commercial backing behind the event. Cygames appears as a sponsor of both OSAF and the race itself, while Jockey Plaza stands as the main local sponsor.

At the same time, emphasis was placed on the growing connection between racing and new audiences, particularly through the phenomenon of Umamusume: Pretty Derby, which has gained traction in South America. In that spirit, the Jockey Club del Perú prepared a dedicated space at the track for fans of the game, featuring activities, cosplay, and interactive experiences aimed at blending digital entertainment with horse racing.

Another major announcement involved the planning of future venues, reinforcing the event’s itinerant nature:

  • 2027: Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo

  • 2028: Sporting Club de Viña del Mar

  • 2029: Club Hípico de Santiago

  • 2030: Hipódromo Nacional de Maroñas

It was also confirmed that the exact date and final details for the 2027 edition will be officially announced next August.

The level of interest generated by this year’s race is also reflected in media coverage: a total of 75 journalists and outlets have been accredited to follow the event, a figure that underscores the renewed international relevance of the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1).
