Palermo: La Watson Headlines the Clásico Sierra Balcarce

The daughter of Hurricane Cat steps down in class seeking a return to the winner's circle, over 2200 meters on the turf

A modest and light program was put together for this Monday by Hipódromo Palermo, where the feature event will take place on the turf courtesy of the Clásico Sierra Balcarce (2,200 m), bringing together fillies and mares 4-year-olds and up under weight-for-age conditions.

Nine runners were confirmed, with La Watson (Hurricane Cat) well positioned to return to winning ways. Her performance in the Estrellas Distaff (G1) was not all bad, finishing eighth behind Indiana Candy (Señor Candy) in a field that outmatched her in quality.

Prior to that, at La Plata, she had forged an intriguing profile by capturing the Clásico Vit Reina and Clásico República Federativa del Brasil, before finishing second in the Clásico México. Stepping back down to a more manageable level, it would come as no surprise to see her score.

Standing in her path is the inconsistent Miss Kalima (Seahenge), who earlier this season finished second in the Clásico Apertura (G2) and fourth in the Clásico Juan Shaw (G2), before dropping her guard somewhat in the Gran Premio Gilberto Lerena (G1) and a recent allowance contest over a shorter trip.

Argomasa (Lucullan) returns intent on defending her title in the Sierra Balcarce after finishing a distant second to Soy La Líder (Manipulator) in the Clásico Espirita (L), while Existing (Winning Prize) is another contender that cannot be overlooked.
