They were formally recognized by the top officials at La Plata for having topped the season-long owners’, jockeys’ and trainers’ standings, respectively

LA PLATA.- Following its final meeting of the 2025 season on Tuesday, the Hipódromo de La Plata honored the winners of its owners’, trainers’ and jockeys’ standings in a ceremony that remains unique among Argentina’s major tracks, as neither Palermo nor San Isidro currently hold a similar recognition.
There was a clear connection among the three leaders: Stud Pauli, owned by Mauro Castellazzi; Juan Pablo E. Díaz, representing Marcelo Sueldo; and jockey Gonzalo Borda—all posting outstanding numbers over the period. Fittingly, they closed the year in style thanks to Escape Room (Il Campione), who, making his first start for the team, returned from a layoff with a six-length victory in the 14th race in a sharp 1:11.99, hinting that more wins are to come.
Throughout the year, the blue-and-yellow silks recorded 36 wins from 80 starts—better than a 45% strike rate—amassing ARS 230,093,800 in earnings. Eight of those victories came at stakes level, highlighted by Es Aristocrático (Angiolo), Encantador Pass (Distinctiv Passion), Takeshi Frank (Gidu) and Citana (Endorsement).
Among riders, Gonzalo Borda delivered a standout campaign with 106 wins, including three of the final four races on Tuesday. He finished with an efficiency north of 26% and more than ARS 650 million in purse earnings. It marked the first riding title for the young jockey, who partnered the aforementioned stakes winners as well as Bayonne (Puerto Escondido) during the season.
On the training side, Juan Pablo E. Díaz—who saddled a double on Tuesday—closed with 66 wins at better than a 34% strike rate, representing Marcelo Sueldo, the stable’s principal trainer and also the 2023 standings leader. With nearly ARS 440 million in earnings, Díaz sent out Es Aristocrático, Encantador Pass, Takeshi Frank and Citana, along with Baby Pass (Distinctiv Passion), Payucano (Mask) and Che Vivi (Manipulator), among others.
The ceremony was attended by Antonio Rivero, president of La Plata’s racing commission, and Mariano Cowen, the track’s administrator.
