After a hiatus of more than a week due to Lollapalooza, the Hipódromo de San Isidro will resume its usual schedule this Wednesday. Fortunately, it returns with a highly entertaining and quality program, blending promising allowance races with the Clásico Regimiento de Granaderos a Caballo (L-2200 m, turf), one of the key preparatory steps toward the fast-approaching Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (G1).

Open to horses 3 years old and up under handicap conditions, the race has gathered eight competitors, highlighted by the presence of Pecado Original, who, fittingly, will carry the top weight of 60 kilos. Starting from gate 1, the son of Global Hunter began the season in more than interesting fashion and is seeking redemption in the "May Classic," having finished second by 1 1/2 lengths behind Honest Boy (Heliostatic) in the 2025 edition. After a lackluster return in December, where he finished seventh in the Tresiete (L), he dead-heated for first place with Chelato (Cosmic Trigger) in the Botafogo (G3), later finishing a close fourth in the Martínez de Hoz (G1).

Pecado Original is under the care of Carlos D. Etchechoury, who will also saddle the candidate's two main rivals: Peter Tosh (Fortify, 52 1/2) and Don Mártir (Il Campione, 55 1/2), to whom he will concede significant weight advantages.

The former, always highly regarded, debuted the colors of Las Monjitas with a solid allowance victory and now aims for more. The latter returns after a 189-day layoff, having signed off with a victory in the 2400-meter Clásico Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (L), leaving The Gladiator's Hat (Hat Ninja) in third.

Two other names to keep in mind are Hit Colchonero (Hit It a Bomb, 58 1/2) and Cornwall (Remote, 58). The first finished just behind Pecado Original in the aforementioned Martínez de Hoz, while the latter was second in the Sarmiento behind Don Mártir and is coming off a third-place finish in the Vicente Dupuy (G3) on the La Punta dirt.

Carrying light weights and looking to pull off an upset will be El Estanciero (Fire Slam, 51 1/2), Santo Rey (Santillano, 53 1/2), Castañón Rim (Remote), and Southern Secret (Southern Cat, 54 1/2).
