Friday’s Handicap Bernardo A., Adolfo P. & Aníbal J. Giovanetti at Palermo promises to be a thrilling tribute to three trainers who left their mark on Argentine racing history. Contested over 1400 meters on the main track, the race is open to fillies and mares four and up, though the assigned weights have raised eyebrows.

Ataka (Señor Candy) carries the top impost at 60 kg, rated above fellow classy stakes winners such as Pecadora Joy (Fortify, 58.5 kg) and Causeway Girl (Dabster, 59 kg). While the handicapper’s logic may hold up numerically, his analysis appears flawed when considering their recent form, though such debates rarely stir concern within the broader racing world despite their undeniable relevance.

Back on her preferred surface, Pecadora Joy looks to extend her excellent streak after dominating the Estrellas Dirt at the end of June, a win that followed her victory in the Clásico Jamelao (L) under similar wet track conditions.

Causeway Girl returns to a more comfortable level here after struggling over heavy turf in the General Las Heras (G3). She boasts prior victories in the Asociación Cooperativa de Criadores de SPC Ltd. (G3) and Empiric, along with placings in the Asociación de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera (G3) (second) and Clásico Farnesio (third). The step up to 2000 meters in the Gran Premio Criadores (G1) proved too much last time out, but she remains a serious threat at her best.

Orpen Rimout (Remote, 56.5 kg), held in high regard, returns after finding the 2000 meters of the Criadores too demanding. If she runs to her true potential, she will be a tough rival for anyone.

Just eleven days removed from narrowly defeating Victoria Bayern (Santillano) in the Handicap Pensilvania while carrying 57.5 kg, Ataka now faces the challenge of added weight, which certainly complicates her chances despite her current strong form.

Also a stakes winner, Bichita de Luz (Fragotero, 59 kg) remains as inconsistent as she is talented, while Increpante (Sigfrid, 53 kg) enters off a comfortable allowance score and will be dangerous with a light impost.
