The seventh attempt proved to be the charm for Pecadora Joy, who on Wednesday at Hipódromo de San Isidro finally got the better of the mile distance in the Handicap Cipayo, the highlight of the card. The race was contested over a standard dirt track, and the mare carried the top weight of 59 kilos without any trouble.

The talented daughter of Fortify had struggled to shine over one of the sport’s most traditional and competitive trips, but this time the story was different. Martín Valle executed a flawless ride, translating her superior form and past performances into a decisive display on the track.

Already a winner this year in the Jamelao (L) and Estrellas Dirt stakes, the Stud-Haras Firmamento runner had disappointed in her previous outing, finishing off the board in the Handicap Giovanetti at Palermo. But in the tribute to the unforgettable Lacydon and Tsarina, she once again showed the determination and finishing power that define her style.

Pecadora Joy settled in comfortably behind early leaders Playa Chopera (Treasure Beach, 52 1/2) and Gritona Re (Safety Check, 52 1/2). Gradually finding her rhythm, she surged into the stretch with authority. Valle only needed to give her the slightest cue; she accelerated strongly, and by the 200-meter marker, she had dispatched Luminica Es (Señor Candy, 52)—who had briefly held the lead—pulling clear without effort. At the wire, she scored by 1 1/2 lengths over Lost Beach (Treasure Beach, 55 1/2), who closed well for second, with Luminica Es three lengths further back, covering the mile in 1:38.99 over a wet track.

Trained by Carlos D. Etchechoury and presented by Daniel A. Bordón, the victory marked Pecadora Joy’s sixth in 19 starts. She is out of Pecadora Inc (Include), who also produced Pecato Joy (Fortify), a three-time handicap winner, and belongs to the maternal family of Nut (Dancing Moss).

With the mile hurdle finally cleared, Pecadora Joy’s campaign continues to sparkle at the higher levels, solidifying her reputation as a genuinely talented and versatile mare.
