Personal Filly seeks classic glory in a historic Selección

The Polla de Potrancas winner will be the stellar attraction this Saturday at La Plata, as the traditional G1 event is run for the final time with top-tier status before its downgrade to G2; Siesta and the unbeaten Everose loom as her primary rivals

LA PLATA.— Much more than just a race will be at stake this Saturday at El Bosque. The Gran Premio Selección de Potrancas (2000m, dirt) will mark the culmination of the season for the 3-year-old fillies and will also carry historic significance: it will be run for the final time as a G1 contest, a status it will forfeit starting in 2027 to become part of the schedule as a G2.

One of the two top-flight events still retained by the La Plata venue—the other being the Dardo Rocha—will bid farewell to that prestige with Personal Filly as its central figure. Conditioned by Juan Saldivia, the daughter of Dabster comes off an easy victory in the Clásico Polla de Potrancas (G2) and will now attempt to complete the most important double reserved for her generation on the local scene.

That triumph established her at the head of the division and turned her into the horse to beat. The Selección, naturally, poses a different level of demand over its 2000 meters, carrying the stern test that comes with tackling a route distance for the first time. It will be her opportunity to confirm her progression and secure the defining victory that would cement her as the undisputed leader among the local fillies.

Siesta (Cityscape) will cross her path once again. Runner-up in the Polla, she made it clear that afternoon that she possesses more than enough quality to put pressure on the favorite. She subsequently traveled to San Isidro to contest the Clásico Federico de Alvear (G2), where she finished fifth on the turf last weekend. Returning to the track where she showed her finest form, she will attempt to gain revenge and reverse the order of finish.

The big wildcard, and perhaps the opponent with the greatest scope for an upset, will be Everose. Unbeaten and a daughter of Uncle Chuck, she has taken every step faultlessly thus far and will face her most severe test to date. The caliber of her opponents and the stretch-out to 2000 meters will present new questions, though everything she has accomplished so far suggests she has the credentials to answer them.

The card will feature another highlight with the Clásico Jockey Club de Santa Fe, run over 1700 meters for fillies and mares four years old and up. Headlining that field is Blessed Shine (Honour Devil), who arrives boosted by her recent victory in the Clásico Ricardo P. Sauze (G3) at Palermo. Her current form establishes her as the benchmark, though she faces a lineup of opponents with sufficient back class to test her.

Among them is Paxing (Señor Candy), a reliable competitor in this type of contest coming off a solid second in the Handicap Mouchette. Also intriguing will be the return to the local spotlight of Mis Locuras (Manipulator), one of the top La Plata fillies of her crop, while Soy la Líder (Manipulator), another mare with strong form at El Bosque, rounds out a deeply credentialed group.

La Plata is set to experience one of its most critical fixtures of the season. All eyes will be on Personal Filly as she aims for classic coronation, but also on a Selección that will bring an end to an era.
