They led the way in the Clásico Baldomero Aspillaga (G3) at Monterrico, claiming the two available spots

LIMA, Perú (Special for Turf Diario).- Monterrico hosted an electric Sunday with the Clásico Baldomero Aspíllaga (G3, 2000m turf), the stage that determined Peru’s two representatives for the upcoming Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1) at Hipódromo da Gáveain Rio de Janeiro on October 18. In an exhilarating finish, Boudica, a 5-year-old daughter of The Lieutenant out of Virgen Morena (Privately Held), produced a decisive late rally along the rail to win in 2:03.58.
Presented in peak condition by Juan Suárez Villarroel and ridden with skill by Húber Bocanegra, Boudica notched her fifth victory in 22 starts, pushing her earnings to S/291,392.
Her triumph secured a direct ticket to Rio for both herself and the runner-up. In that role, Kanko (Newfoundland)delivered a solid second despite a poor start, making the most of the stretch run and finishing just ¾ of a length behind the winner, earning his own automatic berth to the continental showdown.
Happy Man (Mendelssohn) was third, 1¾ lengths back, followed closely by the favorite Magic Power (Power World)in fourth, 2¼ lengths behind after another unlucky start.
Trailing behind were Enforceable (Tapit), Trudeau (Buenos Días), Il Omare (Il Campione), Mathilde (Galapiat), King Mo (Vancouver), Amazonka (Mendelssohn), Furioso Hit (Hit It a Bomb), Jimmy Butler (Unbridled Command), and Don’t Lose Time (Carpe Diem).
As a reward for their impressive performances, Boudica and Kanko earned immediate entry into the Latinoamericano without paying an entry fee, while their closest rival, Happy Man, has the option to participate through a special payment—pending owner acceptance.
With this accomplishment, Peruvian racing now has two confirmed representatives for South America’s premier event, carrying both ambition and competitive fire. As one of the continent’s most successful nations in the history of the race, Monterrico’s chosen contenders are always significant news. Rumor even suggests there could be another local special invitee in the alternative races on the big October card at Gávea.
