Poker Mommy Drops in Class, Targets Handicap Mouchette

The gray filly from Stud Los Betos exits an unplaced effort in the Distaff, though she will carry top weight of 60 kilos
Another rainy afternoon, and another full card at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, where 13 races are on tap and feature a pair of handicaps: the Handicap Mouchette (1800 meters, dirt) for 4-year-old and up fillies and mares, and later, the Handicap Laguna Blanca (1400 meters, dirt), restricted to those 5 and older.
The spotlight in the Mouchette will fall on Poker Mommy (Daddy Long Legs), still searching to recapture the form she showed as a sophomore, when she annexed the G2 Francisco J. Beazley and finished third behind Romance Sea (Seahenge) and Madonna Benois (Angiolo) in the G1 Gran Premio Selección.
Carrying the top weight of 60 kilos, the Franco Scarpello trainee exits a disappointing run in the G1 Estrellas Distaff, but previously, after a lengthy layoff, had rattled off a pair of victories, including the Handicap Elías Antúnez under similar conditions. How she will handle the rain-affected going is uncertain, but she clearly has the class.
The main danger could come from Córdoba in the form of Costa Dark (In the Dark, 59), unraced since April but a winner over this course and distance in the Handicap Tatán back in mid-February. Runner-up in both the Court Harwell and Juan Carlos Noriega Handicaps thereafter, the 6-year-old will look to remain consistent at this level.
Sitting a notch below is Miss Talento (Equal Talent, 57), who has been holding her form nicely with runner-up finishes in the Cote D’Or and Jorge Héctor Iglesias Handicaps. She gets a weight break from the top two, which could prove decisive.
Imported from the U.S., Scarletta (Gun Runner, 54.5) has made three starts locally and won once. Blessed with a distinctive running style, she now takes a step up in class, and this assignment should provide a measure of how far her ability can carry her. She’ll be in light.
