Coming off a victory in the La Troienne (L), she meets a less demanding group in Saturday’s feature

With seven 3- and 4-year-old fillies set to face the starter, the Potri Pe takes center stage this Saturday at San Isidro, on a card that began under morning rain and could unfold under similar conditions. Run over 1000 meters on the turf and contested under handicap conditions, the race pays tribute to the unforgettable mare from Stud Tori who famously led throughout to capture the G1 Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini, with Pablo Falero in the irons.
With no standout star in the lineup, Portuaria Lure looks the one to beat as she comes off a notable step forward in form and will shoulder 56 1/2 kilos. Trained at Palermo by Walter Suárez and María F. Álvarez, the daughter of Puerto Escondido most recently defeated Santa Calma (Qué Vida Buena) by two lengths in the Listed Clásico La Troienne, under conditions very similar to those she will encounter here—though this assignment appears, on paper, a touch less demanding.
Her continued progression will be key, but she will not have it all her own way. Chief among her challengers is the ultra-consistent Vieja Amiga Mask (Mask, 57 1/2), who recently returned from a lengthy layoff with a strong victory at Avenida del Libertador y Dorrego, taking on males and cutting back to 1000 meters for the first time.
Also very much in the mix is the lightly weighted Sunny Frank (Gidu, 53 1/2), who brings solid recent form, having edged Mujer Perdida (Strategos) by a head in a race that featured several promising types.
Firenze Key (Key Deputy, 52 1/2) has not quite matched the form she showed earlier in the season—when she finished a close second to Forever Rim (Remote) in the Listed Clásico Producción Nacional—but this presents a prime opportunity to turn things around.
Don’t overlook Pretoriana (Daniel Boone, 52 1/2), who returns to the distance at which she has looked her best. Dona Cucha (Storm Embrujado, 51 1/2) and Sylvania (Manipulator, 51 1/2) complete the field, entering more as live longshots than obvious contenders, but capable of making things interesting if circumstances fall their way.
