The Pampeano and the Son of Angiolo Stand Out in the Lead-Up to the Handicap Día del Veterinario, Set for Five Furlongs

The Friday stakes doubleheader at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo kicks off with the Handicap Día del Médico Veterinario, a 1000-meter dash on the main dirt track for 5-year-olds and up that have won, offering a modest purse of ARS 5.8 million.
A field of nine is set to go to post, with Príncipe Soñado set to carry top weight—and likely the bulk of the wagering support. The son of Fragotero, bred in La Pampa, has built a solid résumé in the intermediate division, collecting wins in the Clásico Día de la Bandera, the Especial Juan Alberto Maciel, and the Handicap Resuello, along with a handful of strong placings.
Most recently, he has finished second in two consecutive starts: narrowly beaten by Aires de Gloria (Angiolo) in the Clásico Prensa Hípica (L), and then five lengths behind Bailarín de Venecia (Angiolo) in the Clásico Diamond Jubilee.
Príncipe Soñado will again face off against Aires de Gloria (59.5 kg), a rival who defeated him in one of those outings but finished behind him in the Diamond Jubilee, where the Calvente runner—trained by Héctor and ridden by Gustavo—checked in third.
Another notable name in the lineup is Prisma Halo (Perseverante Halo, 54.5 kg), who returns from a 258-day layoff and benefits from a significant weight break. The chestnut, entrusted to top rider Francisco Leandro, has won 3 of 7 career starts and last ran fifth, 5 3/4 lengths behind Gonna Fly Now (Key Deputy) in the Clásico Aristophanes.
Peso Argentino (Le Blues, 55.5 kg) recently bounced back with support at the windows following a string of poor performances and could factor prominently if he maintains his improved form.
For those looking for surprises, keep an eye on Buen Curuzucuateño (Buen Verso, 54.5 kg), Social Security (Security Risk, 51.5 kg), Paris Tech (Luhuk, 56.5 kg), Maro Richard (Emperor Richard, 51.5 kg), and Máximo Johan (Curioso Johan, 52 kg), all of whom will be hoping to pick up the pieces if the favorites falter.
