Precise Aims for Falmouth Stakes Glory to Add Another Group 1 for Unstoppable Aidan O'Brien

The brilliant winner of the Irish 1,000 Guineas (G1) and the Coronation Stakes (G1) returns to Newmarket as the heavy favorite; the master of Ballydoyle aims to continue expanding his extraordinary harvest of top-level triumphs during a sensational European summer

NEWMARKET, England (Special for Turf Diario).— After cementing her status as one of the premier milers in Europe, Precise will attempt this Friday to add another brilliant chapter to her career when she lines up in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes (G1) over the Newmarket mile, a race that could also provide further fuel for Aidan O'Brien's historic season.

The Irish master trainer is chasing his own world record of 28 Group 1 victories in a single calendar year, and the talented daughter of Wootton Bassett stands out as one of his principal aces to continue closing in on that milestone. Following an unexpected setback as the favorite in the English 1,000 Guineas (G1), the filly rebounded with authority to capture the Irish 1,000 Guineas (G1) before confirming her elite class by dominating the Coronation Stakes (G1) during the royal meeting at Ascot.

"Last year we always thought she would be a filly for longer distances, but as long as she continues to perform this well over the mile, we see no reason to change," O'Brien explained. "We are very pleased with how she came out of Ascot, and we expect her to run another great race."

The Ballydoyle management elected to split their two classic-winning sophomore fillies. While English 1,000 Guineas heroine True Love (No Nay Never) travels to France to contest the Prix Jean Prat (G1), Precise will have a clear path to pursue her third consecutive top-flight success of the season.

Among her primary challengers is Blue Bolt (Blue Point), conditioned by Andrew Balding, who enters the race with immense confidence following a brilliant victory in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot and returns to the highest level, where she previously finished second in last autumn's Sun Chariot Stakes (G1).

Also promising a strong challenge is Balantina (Ten Sovereigns), the winner of the 2025 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1). The Donnacha O'Brien trainee made a meritorious seasonal reappearance when finishing fifth behind Precise in the Coronation Stakes, and her handler expects a much sharper performance this time around. "We believe she has come on a lot since Ascot. The track and the distance suit her perfectly, and we are expecting a significant effort," he stated.

Another dangerous contender is Evolutionist (Night of Thunder), representing the Karl Burke stable. A close second to True Love in the English Guineas, she subsequently disappointed in the French Prix de Diane (G1), though her trainer believes that performance is easily forgiven. "She was in season and I also don't think she stayed the 2,100 meters. The betting market is underestimating her; if she returns to her Guineas form, she can run an enormous race," Burke noted.

Venetian Lace (Masar), who hit the board in both the 1,000 Guineas and the Epsom Oaks, encountered a soft track that clearly went against her in the latter. For trainer Charlie Johnston, a return to the mile and a quicker surface could easily spark a return to her finest form.

Rounding out the main contenders is Jancis (Tamayuz), racing for Chilean owner Arturo Cousiño, who captured the Dahlia Stakes (G2) over Newmarket's Rowley Mile earlier this spring and comes off a highly encouraging effort at Royal Ascot.

With a current campaign that already ranks her among the finest European fillies of her generation, Precise looks to assert her absolute leadership division-wide while writing yet another golden page in Ballydoyle's extraordinary season.
