Pulp Fiction Looks for a Turnaround Friday at Laurel Park; Argentine-Bred Gets Turf Test in $53,000 Allowance

LAUREL, Maryland (Special for Turf Diario).- Pulp Fiction (Arg) will look to bounce back and prove her class when she makes her second U.S. start this Friday at Laurel Park, stepping onto the turf for the first time in the eighth race of the day—a $40,000 allowance optional claiming event offering a purse of $53,000 to be contested over one mile.
The daughter of Daddy Long Legs, winner of the 2024 G1 Gran Premio Polla de Potrancas in Argentina, failed to make an impact in her North American debut at Keeneland, finishing sixth and never factoring in a similar spot over the dirt. Now under the care of H. Graham Motion, she’ll try to turn the page with the surface switch, a move that could suit her pedigree and racing background.
Set to break from post 9 under Sheldon Russell, Pulp Fiction will carry 123 pounds and represent the colors of N Theory Racing, having debuted locally under the silks of Resolute Racing. The filly was bred by Haras Los Turfistas and has been training at Fair Hill, where Motion is based, clocking a modest half-mile in :49.60 and five furlongs in 1:03.80 over the synthetic.
Friday’s test appears less demanding than her Keeneland debut, with a field lacking standout credentials. Among her 10 rivals, Bailintin (Girvin) brings some minor black-type form, having run fifth in a similar spot at Belmont at the Big A.after finishing third in the Nellie Morse S. and fifth in the Heavenly Cause S., both listed stakes.
French-bred Wonderfull Lady (Almanzor) owns an inconsistent record but has flashed talent and could be a factor if she brings her best, while J Rivers (Distorted Humor)—to be ridden by Argentine jockey Jorge Ruiz Díaz—also rates a chance in a wide-open affair.
For Pulp Fiction, a return to her roots—both in terms of surface and form—could be just what she needs to begin living up to her international résumé.
