This Thursday, starting at 6 PM, broodmares and a small group of weanlings will go under the hammer, with Lucila Di Nucci making her auctioneering debut and becoming the first woman to call a sale in South America

For the first time in history, a woman will lead a thoroughbred auction in South America. The milestone will take place in Argentina, as Lucila Di Nucci makes her debut on the auction stand this Thursday, adding a historic touch to the March Breeding Sale, the event that will mark the start of Racehorse’s 2024 sales season.

The auction is set to begin at 6 PM (preceded by a presentation at 5:30 PM) and will be conducted online, featuring 46 lots consigned by Haras Alborada, RDI, Carampangue, La Manija, Los Turfistas, Tres Jotas, Quereuquén, Doña Pancha, and Quereuquén. The catalog includes 41 broodmares and 5 weanlings.

“I finished my studies in 2024, and now it’s time to step onto the track,” Di Nucci joked, excited yet admittedly nervous. “I will be selling the entire Haras Alborada consignment, thanks to the support of the Brandemann family, who specifically requested that I auction their mares. It’s an incredible honor and fills me with pride. My father has been running Racehorse for more than 30 years, and I’ve learned so much from him—now it’s my turn to put that knowledge into practice,” she added.

The catalog boasts an impressive lineup, featuring daughters of Orpen (Lure), Roman Ruler (Fusaichi Pegasus), Easing Along (Storm Cat), Treasure Beach (Galileo), Malibu Moon (A.P. Indy), Southern Halo (Halo), Equal Stripes (Candy Stripes), Mutakddim (Seeking the Gold), Verrazano (More Than Ready), and Elusive Quality (Gone West). The broodmares are in foal to prominent sires such as Señor Candy (Candy Ride), Seize (War Front), Remote (Dansili), Cityscape (Selkirk), Lucullan (Hard Spun), Leofric (Candy Ride), Angiolo (Grand Reward), Imperador (Treasure Beach), Pneumatic (Uncle Mo), Forge (Dubawi), Seahenge (Scat Daddy), and Forty One (Archipenko).

Among the standout offerings are:

  • Dulce Itatí (Mr. Troilo), a stakes winner in foal to Seize

  • Timely Broad (Painter), dam of stakes winner Te Lactagogo (Sidney’s Candy), also in foal to Seize

  • Stormy (Elusive Quality), producer of G3 Storm Troops (Orpen) and granddam of G2 Storm Sound (Hi Happy), in foal to Señor Candy

  • Opera City (Equal Stripes), a four-time winner and G2 Clásico Carlos Tomkinson fourth-place finisher

  • Espira (Pure Prize), granddam of G2 Little Hidden Port (Puerto Escondido), carrying a foal by Forge

  • G1 winner Rica Roy (Roy), in foal to Señor Candy

  • The well-bred Over You (Verrazano) and Park Ave (Treasure Beach), both with breeding rights to Imperador

  • Roxy Girl (Salt Lake), a stakes producer in foal to Lucullan

  • Horatia (Catcher In The Rye), a half-sister to G2 Hortensius (Offlee Wild), with an early pregnancy by Cityscape
