Juan Carlos Bagó's breeding operation claimed both races for the new generation at San Isidro and already has contenders for the Ramírez (G2) and Chevalier (G2).
If there was one thing Sunday’s scorching afternoon at the San Isidro Racecourse didn’t lack, it was thrilling racing action. The Clásico Río de la Plata (L) was accompanied by a series of high-potential maiden and allowance races.
Among them were the Premio Elogiado (1200m, turf) and Premio Lindo Orpen (1200m, turf), designed for 2-year-old maiden colts and fillies with aspirations toward the upcoming Raúl y Raúl E. Chevalier (G2) and Eliseo Ramírez (G2). These races could also serve as stepping stones toward the Luro (G2) and Saturnino J. Unzué (G2) at Palermo, albeit on a different surface.
It was a flawless day for the team of Stud-Haras Firmamento, jockey Martín Valle, and trainer Carlos D. Etchechoury, who came together to witness the promising debut victories of Real Rim (Remote) and Tiz Joy (Fortify).
The colt Real Rim delivered an impressive display of courage and talent, slipping through on the rail as favorite Señor Dan (Señor Candy) looked poised for victory halfway down the stretch. Surging past his rival, he won by 1 1/2 lengths, clocking 1:12.72 over a track that was far from fast.
Real Rim is the fourth foal out of the accomplished Real Nistel (Van Nistelrooy), who was undefeated in her first two starts, including a win in the Clásico Manuel J. Güiraldes (G3). The mare has also produced winners Really Seiver(Super Saver), Real Craf (Mastercraftsman), and Real Rimout (Remote).
Later, it was the fillies’ turn, and Tiz Joy delivered a dazzling performance, romping to a 6-length victory over Lessons of Life (Le Blues) in 1:11.95—a significantly faster time than that of Real Rim and not far off the 1:11.42 recorded by Despacito (Sabayón) to win the featured stakes.
Tracking the leaders, including the favorite Go Clari Go (Strategos), Tiz Joy effortlessly took over at the top of the stretch and drew away in style, finishing with a flourish.
A daughter of the imported mare Tiz Forever (Tiznow), Tiz Joy hails from a prestigious family. Her dam is a granddaughter of the legendary Cara Rafaela (Quiet American) through Bernardette (A.P. Indy), making her a close relative of champion Bernardini. She is also a half-sister to Tiznow Forever (Midshipman), a winner at San Isidro under the same Firmamento silks.
