Record-Breaking Entry List for Breeders’ Cup, with Full Serrano and Eccentric Carrying South American Hopes

The organization announced 255 pre-entries, corresponding to 222 horses, for the 14 races at Keeneland. The Argentine runner will seek to repeat his 2024 triumph in the Dirt Mile, while the Chilean filly faces a massive challenge in the Turf. Forever Young and Sovereignty head an extraordinary roster

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special for Turf Diario).— The 2026 Breeders' Cup has already begun making history, even before the starting gates open. On Wednesday, race organizers announced the preliminary roster of pre-entries for the cards scheduled for Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31, at Keeneland, posting record-setting numbers: 255 pre-entries corresponding to 222 individual horses, including 79 international contenders. South America will feature two standout representatives to follow closely: Argentina's Full Serrano (Full Mast) and Chile's Eccentric(Ivan Denisovich).
The 43rd edition of the World Championships promises a formidable spectacle, boasting 14 G1 races and over $34 million in purses and awards. The total number of overseas runners marks the second-highest in event history, sitting just behind the 80 recorded in 2024, while the entered horses represent 10 breeding countries across 6 continents.
For Argentina, the confirmation of Full Serrano offers the chance to rally behind a horse that has already written a golden page in racing history. Bred by Haras Gran Muñeca, owned by Hronis Racing, and sired by Full Mast out of Serra do Mar (Jump Start), he was pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1)—the very race he won in brilliant fashion at Del Mar in 2024.
Trained by John Sadler, the 7-year-old dark bay is poised for his third consecutive appearance in the series, following that unforgettable victory and a fifth-place effort in 2025, also at Del Mar. His recent form keeps expectations high, even as he faces a steep assignment.
This season, he placed third in the Pegasus World Cup (G1), finished fourth in the Oaklawn Mile (G3)—after a disastrous break—and reasserted his class with another third-place finish in the Pacific Classic (G1) behind the impressive Knightsbridge (Nyquist), having pressed suicidal early fractions.
That marked his final prep start, and his connections have since carefully geared his training toward this renewed target. On October 9, he covered 1200 meters in 1:13.40 at Santa Anita.
Full Serrano is also among an elite group of 12 past Breeders' Cup champions pre-entered across this year's festival. Should he repeat his 2024 triumph, he would become only the second Argentine-bred horse to win the same World Championship event twice, joining the legendary Bayakoa (Consultant's Bid), winner of the Breeders' Cup Distaff(G1) in 1989 and 1990.
South America’s other major hopeful is Eccentric, the standout daughter of Ivan Denisovich out of Elea (Seeking the Dia). Born and raised at Haras Don Alberto, she has been pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) against males—one of the marquee and most demanding tests on the schedule, featuring a $5 million purse.
The Chilean mare secured her automatic berth in the Gran Premio Club Hípico de Santiago-Falabella (G1) on May 31 over 2000 meters, where, under Óscar Ulloa, she held off Noche Sublime (Mendelssohn) by a slim margin. That victory earned her a spot through the "Win and You're In" challenge series.
A winner of the Polla de Potrancas (G1) and the Nacional Ricardo Lyon (G1), as well as runner-up in Las Oaks(G1), Eccentric has assembled a stellar career under trainer Patricio Baeza. Now stationed at Keeneland, she is fine-tuning her preparation with Wesley Ward’s team. On Tuesday, over a less-than-ideal turf course, she worked 1000 meters in 1:05.80 ahead of her international test.
Her presence carries special weight as she prepares to tackle some of the world's top stayers, particularly the European contingent that traditionally dominates the division. However, her consistency, class, and proven record against males fuel optimism for a strong performance.
The Classic Showdown: Forever Young vs. Sovereignty
Unsurprisingly, much of the international spotlight will center on the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), where Forever Young (Real Steel) aims to become just the second horse to win the race twice, following Tiznow (Cee's Tizzy) in 2000 and 2001.
The Japanese sensation, trained by Yoshito Yahagi, returns to defend the title he captured last year at Del Mar. In 2026, he added a second Saudi Cup (G1) to his record, finished runner-up in the Dubai World Cup (G1), and secured a 3 1/4-length victory in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), proving his elite form remains intact.
His chief rival appears to be Sovereignty (Into Mischief), Godolphin’s champion trained by Bill Mott. The winner of the 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1), Belmont Stakes (G1), and Travers Stakes (G1), he also captured the Whitney Stakes (G1) this season. The head-to-head clash between the two promises to be one of the year's defining racing moments.
They will not stand alone. Knightsbridge, winner of the Pacific Classic (G1), and Magnitude (Not This Time), hero of the Dubai World Cup (G1) and Stephen Foster Stakes (G1), are also pre-entered. They are joined by the standout Phileas Fogg (Astern) and a strong 3-year-old crop led by Golden Tempo (Curlin), winner of the 2026 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes; Napoleon Solo (Liam's Map), winner of the Preakness Stakes (G1); The Puma(Essential Quality), winner of the Pennsylvania Derby (G1); and Further Ado (Gun Runner), winner of the Blue Grass Stakes (G1).
A total of 11 horses were pre-entered for the Classic, including Forged Steel (Vekoma) and Japan’s T O Password(Copano Rickey), whose connections indicated the Dirt Mile as their first preference. Several other contenders maintain dual entries, leaving crucial decisions to be made before post positions and final fields are locked in.
Other returning champions looking to reassert their dominance include Ethical Diamond (Awtaad), Notable Speech(Dubawi), Shisospicy (Mitole), Splendora (Audible), Immersive (Bernardini), Super Corredora (Gun Runner), Cy Fair (Not This Time), Gstaad (Starspangledbanner), Nobals (Noble Mission), and Starlust (Zoustar), showcasing elite quality spread across all divisions.
Organizers also confirmed that 58 pre-entered horses earned automatic berths through the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series, which featured 95 qualifying races across 14 countries and 5 continents in 2026. Keeneland hosts the World Championships for the fourth time, following previous runnings in 2015, 2020, and 2022.
The final administrative step takes place on Monday, October 26, when final entries close and post positions are drawn. Friday, October 30, will feature the five 2-year-old World Championship races, followed by the remaining nine races on Saturday, October 31, capped by the Classic in its traditional spot as the grand finale.
