Redentor Scat seeks to extend his fine form in the Especial Arrayán

The son of Knockout arrives in peak form and looms as the primary candidate over the 1200 meters at La Plata. Payucano, returning to his preferred distance, emerges as the most dangerous threat, while Sebi Torres, Arcanum, and Equal Romano also hold valid claims to contest the victory

Speed will take center stage this Thursday at Hipódromo de La Plata with the Especial Arrayán (1200 m), the featured contest on a card set for 5-year-olds and upward with three or more wins to their credit. An intriguing assignment featuring experienced campaigners with sufficient form to promise an exciting outcome, though much of the focus will settle on Redentor Scat (Knockout), who is enjoying the best form of his racing career.
Carrying 56 kilos, the top choice will try to build on a sequence of performances that have established him among the most competitive sprinters at El Bosque. His latest outing came in the Clásico Carlos Pellegrini, where he finished second by 2 1/2 lengths to Valdobbio (Equal Stripes)—a display that validated his earlier victory in the Especial Sociedad Hipódromo Chile.
His running style is well established and unlikely to change. Redentor Scat needs a sharp pace up front, a demanding setup, and the chance to capitalize on tiring leaders to launch his late stretch run in the crucial stages. Should the race shape up in his favor, he will have an excellent opportunity to return to the winner's circle.
Naturally, the task will be far from straightforward, owing largely to the presence of Payucano (Mask), the type of rival that demands absolute respect. Trained by Marcelo Sueldo, he will shoulder the top weight of 58 kilos, but boasts more than enough form to compensate for the burden. Back in mid-December, he claimed the Handicap Hipódromo de San Isidro over this very 1200-meter trip, defeating Glorioso Rim (Remoto) while leaving Redentor Scat back in fifth.
Following that success, he endured a layoff of several months before returning on September 1 with a victory over a mile. He subsequently ran fifth in the Especial Libreo, 5 3/4 lengths behind Color Vision (Univisión) and Escape Room (Il Campione), in a performance that lacked punch. Now he returns to a distance over which he also won the Clásico Estrellas Azuleñas during his sophomore campaign.
Seasoned, fully strip-fit second time back, and backed by the successful tandem of Marcelo Sueldo, Gonzalo Borda, and Stud Pauli, Payucano possesses every credential to pose the primary obstacle for the favorite. His ability to assert himself early could prove decisive.
Another runner likely to press the pace is Sebi Torres (Orpen), a 7-year-old veteran who retains all his competitive desire. He will also carry 56 kilos, coming off a fourth-place finish in the Handicap Haras San Benito, 5 lengths behind Hit It a Bou (Hit It a Bomb). Prior to that, in mid-July, he was beaten just a head by Fantasy Rim (Remote) in the Handicap Juan Bautista Bondo at Palermo. If he can replicate that form, he will prove a formidable opponent.
More difficult to gauge is which version of Arcanum (Horse Greeley, 56) will show up, as inconsistency has hindered his recent efforts. Just three days ago, he finished fifth in the Handicap APHARA at Palermo, 10 lengths adrift of Lonely Boy (Remote), though he was only 4 lengths off the runner-up. While clearly not at his peak, his back class mandates respect. The quick turnaround between starts adds another variable.
Finally, Equal Romano (Equal Legítimo, 54) looms as an attractive longshot. In mid-August, he ran second to Redentor Scat in the Especial Sociedad Hipódromo Chile, finishing 2 1/2 lengths behind the winner while placing ahead of Arcanum. That performance gives him every right to aim for a major share of the purse if he can elevate his form just a notch.
