The colt representing Stud RDI lived up to all the promise he had shown in his debut and defeated Stay Tune, who endured several troubled moments during the running and deserved better luck

Just as he had done on debut, Roi du Monde displayed a dazzling turn of foot to preserve his unbeaten record in the Gran Premio Gran Criterium (G1-1600m, firm turf), establishing himself as the leading 2-year-old colt on the turf course at Hipódromo de San Isidro.
That brilliant debut victory back in April had left many demanding racing fans deeply impressed, which is why Turf Diario selected him as the main contender for this race. And if what shines early truly matures, Argentine racing may well be looking at a colt of genuine class.
Ridden to perfection by Adrián Giannetti, one of the standout performers of the afternoon, the son of the generous Treasure Beach was among those compromised early after the unexpected inward move from Pancho Gio (Caravaggio), who veered sharply and caused interference that particularly affected heavy favorites Stay Tune (Fortify) and Cardo Castilla (Strategos).
The race then had to reorganize itself.
Lunático Bomb (Hit It a Bomb) inherited the lead, while the eventual winner settled in last position alongside Cardo Castilla, who suffered a sesamoid fracture entering the stretch and had to be sharply restrained.
Once in the straight, Giannetti quickly angled Roi du Monde toward the center of the course, a decisive move because inside, Stay Tune encountered several traffic problems just as he was attempting to launch his run.
The colt from Stud RDI gained first momentum over the runner representing Las Monjitas and managed to hold him safe by one length at the wire.
Another 1 1/2 lengths back, Lunático Bomb held third comfortably ahead of Paulo Sil (Treasure Beach) after a final time of 1:36.34, roughly two-fifths slower than the mark posted earlier by Gran Gotera (Made You Look) in the Gran Premio de Potrancas (G1).
Roi du Monde is out of Fay (Drosselmeyer), a maternal sister to Group winners Manuca (Agnes Gold) and La Louviere (Agnes Gold), giving him a pedigree that strongly suggests trainer Alfredo Gaitán Dassié already has every reason to begin thinking about more classic distances ahead.
As for Stay Tune, he certainly deserves another chance, and the upcoming Estrellas Juvenile (G1) already shapes as the perfect stage for a rematch that now feels impossible to miss.
