Dropping sharply in class and carrying the top weight of 60 kilos, the Fortify colt kicked off his 2026 campaign with a victory in the Handicap Condal

The old racetrack adage rang true once again. The notion that “weight is just another medal” came into play in the Hcp. Condal (1600m, dirt), the feature event on Wednesday’s card at San Isidro, where Sabiyano delivered a commanding performance to kick off his 2026 campaign in style, snapping a brief run of defeats that had momentarily slowed the momentum he carried through much of 2025.

A dual graded stakes winner at La Plata in the G3 9 de Julio and G3 General José de San Martín, the son of Fortify was asked to shoulder the top impost of 60 kilos, but was also dropping sharply in class—and the edge in quality was evident. Fair to say, too, that several of his rivals were hard done by at the weights, making the task even more straightforward for the favorite.

From there, the Stud Chúcaros runner did exactly what he does best: allowing others to burn energy up front before producing his run with authority in the lane and sweeping past them. Hardly asked for his best, and with William Pereyraalready easing him down late, Sabiyano drew off to score by three lengths over the lightweight Tryman (Safety Check), who had a minor check just as he tried to mount a challenge.

Sent off at a generous $4.60, Sabiyano picked up ARS 6,750,000 for the win, stopping the clock in 1:35.04. Trained by Luis A. Sánchez and bred by Haras Vacación, he now looks ready to return to graded company—where, once again, the big races await with open arms.
