The Chúcaro's runner scored decisively at La Plata, establishing himself as a rising force among the Bosque milers and marking a milestone for apprentice jockey María E. Schneider

LA PLATA.- The unexpected victory of Sabiyano in Thursday’s Clásico 9 de Julio – Día de la Independencia (G3, 1600m, dirt)at La Plata delivered multiple headlines.
First and foremost was the emergence of the Fortify colt as a serious contender in the local miler division, a category that has seen leaders rotate almost race by race, yet continues to produce high-level, thrilling clashes such as this one.
The chestnut’s win also marked a career milestone for apprentice jockey María Eugenia Schneider, who was making her G3 debut and secured her first graded trophy in Argentina’s major circuits. It capped a notable week for female riders, following Andrea Marinhas’s flawless ride aboard Antiguo Secreto (Angiolo) to win Palermo’s Clásico Guillermo Paats (L) on Monday.
Another headline was the fresh graded success for Stud Chúcaro’s, the ownership group formed by former Los Pumasrugby stars including Rodrigo Roncero and Mario Ledesma, whose colors also shone with Truly Princess (Daddy Long Legs) earlier on the card.
Coming off a sharp win in allowance company at San Isidro, Sabiyano assumed a prominent role in a race that unfolded at a moderate tempo. As expected, Paraná Miní (Winning Prize) led early through splits of :25.49, :48.94, and 1:14.27, tracked closely by El Emporio (Il Campione) and Sabiyano, who maintained a stalking position throughout.
The complexion changed in the stretch. As El Emporio faded and Paraná Miní clung to the rail trying to slip away, Sabiyano surged swiftly to challenge. Meanwhile, favorite Monsieur Delon (Il Campione) lost some ground, with Indy Pro (Indy Point) and Twitch Hurricane (Hurricane Cat) closing fast.
In the final furlong, Sabiyano drew clear to score by 1 1/2 lengths over Indy Pro, with Monsieur Delon a head back in third. Another head separated Paraná Miní and Twitch Hurricane in fourth and fifth, respectively. The final time was 1:39.82.
Bred by Haras Vacación and trained by Luis A. Sánchez, the winner is out of Stormy Vagueness (Bernstein), making him a half-brother to G2 winner Vagabundo Inc (Include) and to stakes-placed Valga La Pena. His dam won the Clásico Leteo (L) at two, and the family traces back to champions South Vagabundo (Southern Halo) and Edict (Il Campione), among others.
Having just turned four, Sabiyano joins the ranks of the top milers at La Plata and seems poised to continue his upward trajectory as maturity adds to his arsenal. His connections will now set sights on the prestigious Clásico Joaquín V. González (G2) later this year.
With such emerging talent, the division promises further top-class spectacles—and Sabiyano looks set to play a key role in them.
