Two-year-olds moving up to the three-year-old ranks will see a drop in purchasing power, although they will earn slightly more than what was previously paid to three-year-olds turning four. In stakes races, the increase is barely noticeable

With the customary age change in the Southern Hemisphere horse population at midyear, Hipódromo de San Isidro has implemented a new purse structure for July, combining increases and reductions depending on category.
For example, a 2-year-old maiden winner over 1000 meters who previously earned AR$4,620,000 will now, as a 3-year-old, receive AR$4,200,000. Compared to what 3-year-olds earned upon turning four, this is a slight improvement, as that purse was set at AR$4,110,000.
In a 1000-meter race for 4-year-olds with more than two wins, the prize was AR$3,600,000. Now, upon moving to the 5-year-old division, it drops to AR$2,650,000. Meanwhile, 3-year-olds turning four in the same condition will now earn AR$3,700,000, roughly in line with the previous category.
For 3-year-olds turning four in a 1400-meter winners-of-one race, the purse falls from AR$4,957,500 last week to AR$3,850,000 from July. By contrast, colts newly turned three running in that division will receive AR$5,100,000.
Overall, there will be a reduction in total prize money allocated to conditional races.
Regarding stakes races, changes are barely noticeable. For instance, the Clásico Omega (G2, mile, fillies and mares three and up) awarded AR$10,350,000 to Fiesta Porteña (Fortify) for her recent win. If run now, the purse would be AR$10,800,000, a marginal increase.
It is worth noting that San Isidro’s purse increases throughout the season have been minimal, leaving it at a disadvantage compared to Hipódromo de Palermo, which—at least with no announced changes—maintained its purses despite the age shift. Even Hipódromo de La Plata, following its latest raise, has approached San Isidro’s levels in certain categories.
