San Isidro Suspended Trainer Nicolás Martín Ferro for 2 and a Half Years

It was due to the positive test of Kyprinos; Nicolás Gaitán, Edgardo Patriarca, Oscar Blanchet, and Sebastian LatofWere Also Banned



Nicolás Martín Ferro, winner of the Premio Pellegrini as Best Trainer of the 2024 and 2025 seasons, received an extremely harsh penalty from the racing committee of San Isidro Racetrack after the positive test of the colt Kyprinoswas confirmed when he finished second in the third race on April 18th, naturally, at the Jockey Club venue.

The son of Fortify reportedly had cocaine detected in his system—though this was not officially confirmed—following that performance, which triggered an internal investigation within the professional's organization, who subsequently presented his defense to the executives. Regardless, and due to his ultimate responsibility, he was suspended for 2 and a half years, until November 5, 2028.

The official report released by San Isidro explains that Nicolás accepted the result of the split-sample testing and, furthermore, that the presence of the mentioned substance was due to the actions of a groom on his team. However, the defense presented does not override the application of the regulations.

Kyprinos will be barred from competing for 6 months, until this coming November 5th, and additionally, the trainer must pay a fine of approximately 1,250,000 pesos (essentially nothing).

The final order of finish for the race was established as follows: 1st, Roi du Monde; 2nd, Motorcoach; 3rd, Linguado; 4th, Medallero; 5th, Tres Otoños; 6th, The Bandit.

For its part, San Isidro also banned Edgardo Patriarca for 9 months, following the confirmation of a prohibited medication detected in White Coats (Forge), second in the second race all the way back on February 4th!. It is worth clarifying that the horse is actually trained by Gerardo Alteño.

Another professional who will remain off the programs for several months is Nicolás Gaitán, who was suspended for 6 months due to the positive test found in Gran Vigía (Lucullan) after winning the twelfth race on April 22nd.

Meanwhile, a 3-month suspension was handed down to conditioner Sebastián Latof after traces of prohibited substances were also discovered in the post-race analysis taken from his trainee Es Deseado (Il Campione) upon winning the ninth race on April 29th.

Finally, Oscar Blanchet was penalized for 2 months, being the professional responsible for saddling The Northman(Cityscape) when he finished in second place in the third race on April 22nd.
