LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special to Turf Diario) — The next chapter in the career of Sarawak Rim is already mapped out. Following her promising seventh-place finish in last Saturday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar—her U.S. debut—and after failing to meet her reserve when offered Tuesday at the Keeneland November Mixed Sale, the Argentine-bred daughter of Remote will spend the winter in Miami before returning to Kentucky in the spring.

With the retirement and return to Argentina of her longtime trainer Ignacio Correas (h.), Sarawak Rim’s connections have also decided on her new conditioner: the accomplished and widely respected George “Rusty” Arnold.

Arnold, who shares the all-time record for most wins at Keeneland (307) with Bill Mott, is one of the most successful and enduring figures in American racing. His résumé includes multiple Grade I winners such as Kilwin (Twirling Candy), Concrete Rose (Twirling Candy), West by West (Gone West), Clear Mandate (Deputy Minister), Centre Court (Smart Strike), Karelian (Bertrando), and Romantic Vision (Lemon Drop Kid).

In total, the 70-year-old trainer has compiled 1,992 victories from 13,534 starts in the U.S., with career earnings surpassing $91 million—and notably, his last two seasons have been among the most successful of his career.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Arnold began his journey in racing as an exercise rider and assistant before obtaining his trainer’s license in 1975. Since then, he has built a reputation for consistency, professionalism, and quiet excellence. His main base remains Keeneland, complemented by winter campaigns in Florida and summer seasons at Saratoga.

Known for his modest demeanor and calm approach, Arnold is the kind of horseman who prefers to let his horses do the talking. Deeply respected across the industry, he is often accompanied in the mornings by his wife Sarah, an artist and accomplished horsewoman who rides during training hours while he observes from the rail. Away from the racetrack, his great passion is golf.

Arnold’s name is also tied to one of Keeneland’s most memorable upsets: in 2016, his filly Weep No More (Mineshaft) shocked the field in the GI Ashland Stakes at odds of 30-1, winning by a neck and earning her spot in the GI Kentucky Oaks.

Now, Sarawak Rim becomes the latest addition to the veteran trainer’s powerful stable—a fitting continuation for a mare whose talent, class, and international story are just beginning to unfold.
