LA PLATA, Argentina–Making his first appearance at Hipódromo de La PlataSeñor Dan (54 kg) looked right at home as he continued his upward trajectory with a sharp score in Tuesday’s Especial Río de Oro (1400 meters, dirt), one of the card’s two featured events.

A stakes performer as a juvenile, the chestnut colt keeps getting better, and his latest effort suggests a return to graded company may not be far off. Facing seasoned company, Señor Dan delivered a powerful performance to defeat Vespaciano (Daniel Boone, 56 kg), a Group 1 winner, in what shaped up as a thrilling two-horse duel.

The pair squared off from the jump, with Señor Dan racing to the outside of Vespaciano throughout. The decisive move came in the final 200 meters, when the Stud Comalal runner edged clear to score by 1 1/2 lengths. Le Club (Le Blues, 56 kg) reported home third, another 1 1/2 lengths behind. Final time for the 1400 meters was 1:24.40.

Trained by Carlos Cardón out of Campo 2 de San Isidro and guided by apprentice Lucas González, Señor Dan also completed a stakes double on the day for the now-closed Haras de La Pomme, which bred both him and Arcanum(Horse Greeley), earlier winner of the Clásico Asociación de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera (G3).
