Señor Importante and Bayonne Capture Sunday Features at La Plata

LA PLATA.- Señor Importante and Bayonne celebrated their first classic victories during Sunday's racing card at Hipódromo de La Plata. The former won the Clásico Alejandro Korn (2100m), while the latter captured the Clásico Diego M. Argüello(1100m), both held on normal dirt and with a weight-for-age scale.

With just three prior outings in allowance company as his introduction, Señor Importante demonstrated class to defeat the heavy favorite Rumor de Fuego (Daddy Long Legs), who had recently dominated the Clásico Comparación by several lengths.

Under jockey Juan Cruz Villagra, the colt from Stud Los Ponchos kept his focus, remaining unfazed by the early pace. Rumor de Fuego took the lead early, with Preludio Lento (Daddy Long Legs) taking over in the backstretch. Always sitting in fourth, Señor Importante made his move wide in the final stretch, as the crowd's favorite regained the lead but had already been softened up, battling with Che Banquero (Greenspring). From 200 meters to the wire, the chestnut surged ahead to claim victory by one length in a time of 2m12s73/100.

Bred by Haras Vacación and trained by José Luis Correa Aranha—presented by Marina López Bragante—he is a son of Fortify and Ilusionaria (Roman Ruler).

A short while later, Bayonne dominated wire to wire in the Clásico Diego M. Argüello, drawing away easily in the stretch to win by four lengths over High Rimout (Remote), with Gurisa Mask (Mask) finishing third, another two lengths behind, and the best-placed filly from Stud Tinta Roja.

Bred by Haras Embrujo SA and trained by Andrés Domingo, Bayonne was ridden by Gonzalo Borda. She is a daughter of champion Puerto Escondido and Burg Rein (Johannesburg), now boasting four wins from 10 starts at just three years old. Her time for the distance was 1m4s53/100.
