The colt from Stud Los Ponchos will look to validate his impressive victory in the Clásico Alejandro Korn as he takes on older, more seasoned rivals over 2100 meters at La Plata

LA PLATA.- The road to the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha (G1) will feature one of its key stops this afternoon at the Hipódromo de La Plata, with the running of the Clásico Antonio Cané (G3), a 2100-meter test for 3-year-olds and up, to be contested under set weights.
With nine confirmed starters, the race will showcase a mix of names looking to establish themselves in the division, and others hoping to rediscover the form that once made them major players at this track.
Among the up-and-comers is Señor Importante (Fortify), the northern raider who turned heads with a strong local debut when taking the Clásico Alejandro Korn, defeating heavy favorite Rumor de Fuego (Daddy Long Legs) by a length.
As the saying goes, getting there is one thing—staying there is another. For the Stud Los Ponchos runner, this is a perfect chance to take that next step, even if the competition includes seasoned campaigners like Sofware (Treasure Beach) and Notable Island (Lizard Island).
Sofware, the top local 2-year-old two seasons ago, has struggled to maintain consistency since. Although his recent efforts have been underwhelming, it’s worth noting that he was a solid fourth to Treasure Island (Treasure Runner) in last November’s Rocha.
Notable Island, meanwhile, caused a stir when winning the Clásico Jockey Club de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (G2) in December. He hasn’t backed up that effort since, though frequent changes in trip may have played a role. Now back to a more suitable distance, he’s one to keep an eye on.
Che Banquero, third behind Señor Importante in the Korn, had previously captured the Malvinas Argentinas, building on a solid second in the Comparación (L) over Tambaqui (True Cause), who then finished fifth behind Holy Holy Rim (Remote) in Palermo’s running of that same stakes. Both will be back in the starting gate today.
