LA PLATA.- Eighteen runners will go to post in Thursday’s Especial Sideral (1300m, dirt) at La Plata, a stakes race for horses five years and older with at least three career wins.

It’s tough to single out a clear favorite in a competitive field, but the spotlight shines brightest on Sebi Torres (Orpen, 54 kilos), who will try to confirm his excellent form from post 2. The son of Orpen has been consistent at Palermo, scoring his fourth win before finishing second to Safety Honour (Safety Check) in the Handicap Good Time, and a close third, just a nose behind Twitch Hurricane (Hurricane Cat) in the Handicap Practicante.

Just over two months ago, Minero de Oro (Violence) ran a solid race, finishing half a length behind the veteran Surfing Boy (Hurricane Cat) in the Clásico Onesto Puente (L), making him another strong contender. Likewise, El Ernesto (Il Campione, 56 kilos) arrives off a third-place finish in the Handicap Condal and returns with ambitions.

The G1 winner Vespaciano (Daniel Boone, 56 kilos) was runner-up to the now classic winner Señor Dan (Señor Candy) in the Especial Río de Oro. Approaching seven years old, he remains competitive. Don’t overlook Fancy Model (Lizard Island, 58 kilos), who bounced back in his latest start, or Querellante (Daniel Boone), who returns under new management aiming to make an impact.
