Ser Lady Legs, Lightly Weighted to Make Her Stakes Breakthrough

The daughter of Daddy Long Legs made full use of her 52-kilo impost to edge Esperanza Eterna by a half-neck in the Clásico Orbit (L). The two lightweights dominated the finish, while the topweights brought up the rear

The handicap conditions held the final say in Wednesday’s feature at San Isidro, the Clásico Orbit (L). The two bottom-weighted contenders carrying 52 kilos settled the issue, while the topweights were left far behind. Ser Lady Legs found the necessary surge to capture her black-type breakthrough, proving she still has plenty of upside.
Bred and raced by Haras Pozo de Luna, the filly dug deep in the final strides to edge the surprising Esperanza Eterna(Il Campione, 52kg) by a half-neck, stopping the clock in an excellent 1:21.92 for the 1400 meters on a fast dirt track.
Under Martín Valle, Esperanza Eterna went straight to the lead and set a moderate opening tempo of 24.39 for the first 400 meters. She then picked up the pace, clicking off 800 meters in 47.57 and 1200 meters in 1:10.22. Turning into the home stretch, she attempted to kick clear and came close to pulling off the upset.
However, Ser Lady Legs began to mount her rally down the center of the track. Guided by Luciano Recuero, the imposing 495-kilo daughter of Daddy Long Legs relentlessly shaved off ground, leveled the leader, and sustained her bid to tip the scales right on the wire.
Five lengths behind the top two finished post-time favorite Class Life (Fortify, 56kg), who offered no serious threat in third. Further back came Gelaria (Cityscape, 54.5kg) and Forming (Winning Prize, 54kg), preceding the day's major disappointments: Party Girl (Outstrip), the Brazilian import who toted the top weight of 58 kilos, finished sixth, beat 9 lengths, while Creencia Espiritual (Strategos, 57.5kg), who arrived on a two-race winning streak, brought up the rear 9 1/2 lengths off the winner. Both faced the test of stretching out to 1400 meters and failed to respond.
Trained by Alfredo Gaitán Dassié, Ser Lady Legs recorded her third victory in 10 career starts and her first at the stakes level. Coming off a runner-up finish in an alternative optional allowance over the same distance, her jump in class proved as demanding as it was rewarding, providing special satisfaction for Pozo de Luna, who both bred and owns her.
Behind the victory lies a rich genetic background. She is out of Stina (Easing Along), a winner at 2 and 3 who previously produced Sirani (Ídolo Porteño), fourth in both the Clásico Diego White (G3) and the Polla de Potrancas(G2) at La Plata in 2022.
Her maternal line trace back to a prominent cornerstone of Chilean racing history: Sacramentada (Northair), her third dam, a champion on the dirt through victories in the Gran Premio Hipódromo Chile (G1) and the Haras de Chile (G1), as well as a stakes winner in the United States.
Backed by that pedigree depth, a sturdy frame, and a first classic medal under her belt, Ser Lady Legs has embarked on a new chapter. While the light 52-kilo assignment certainly helped, the grit to chase down a resolute pacemaker was entirely her own.
