It is not an editing error, dear reader, nor has last week’s page simply stuck to the current one. Although the names are repeated and the result is the same, what Sexy Star achieved at Monterrico this past Saturday afternoon deserves a separate chapter—the kind reserved for the unbreakable health and spirit that only truly great horses possess.

Just one week ago, the bay mare bred at Haras Abolengo shone on the Coloso de Surco turf by capturing the Clásico Dardanus. However, far from returning to the stables for a well-deserved rest, the daughter of Equal Stripes and Paula Sexy (Ride The Rails) accepted the challenge of returning to action in record time. This time, the stage was the dirt for the Clásico Gustavo Luna Vértiz (L, 1000m), a weight-for-age contest that confirmed her status as one of the most consistent sprinters in the circuit.

Defending the silks of Stud Jet Set, the Juan Suarez Villarroel trainee benefited from a top-tier ride by Huber Bocanegra. In a specialty where there is no room for error, the jockey expertly managed the Argentine’s energy to hold off the late charges and cross the wire with a 3/4-length advantage over Tokyo (Meal Penalty), who unsuccessfully attempted to threaten the lead.

The heavy favorite, Paraiso Azul (Gift Box), had to settle for third place, 2 1/4 lengths back, while Suleika (Bay Of Plenty) and Mama Lucy (Forty Tales) completed the frame.

Fractions of 22s 81/100 and 44s 70/100 for the first 400 and 800 meters reflected an intense pace, with the clock stopping at a solid 57s 61/100. With this latest victory, Sexy Star improved her record to 11 wins from 39 starts, bringing her total career earnings to 125,636 soles (approximately US$ 36,500).

Winning two stakes races in just one week, switching surfaces and maintaining such high competitiveness, is a rare feat that highlights the quality of Argentine breeding and the expert hand of her professional team. Sexy Star—a full sister to the champion Paulinho and the G1 winner Positive Mind—does not just run; she confirms that longevity is the finest credential in today’s turf.
