The Argentine breeding industry is set to welcome an exciting new addition this season with the arrival of Simplification, a multiple graded stakes performer who will begin stud duty at Haras Carampangue. The son of Not This Time will stand in partnership with Haras Juan Antonio, Stud RDI, and El Wing, a powerful alliance backed by top-quality broodmare bands that promises to generate high expectations.
A powerful and eye-catching individual, Simplification is by one of the leading sires in North America and out of a Candy Ride (ARG) mare, descending from a female family rich in champions. Trained by Venezuelan Antonio Sano, Simplification quickly emerged as one of the standout 3-year-olds of his generation.
A runaway 16 3/4-length maiden winner at two at Gulfstream Park, he stamped himself as a stakes horse with a win in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes (L) and followed that up with a runner-up effort to White Abarrio (Race Day) in the Holy Bull (G3). He would then deliver the performance of his career with a decisive 3 1/2-length score in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) going 1 1/16 miles.
After finishing third behind White Abarrio again in the Florida Derby (G1), Simplification ran a strong fourth, beaten just 3 1/2 lengths by Rich Strike (Keen Ice), in the Kentucky Derby (G1).
He would later add placings in the West Virginia Derby (G3), Harlan’s Holiday Stakes (G3), and Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G2), while also competing with credit in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) and Ghostzapper Stakes (G3), retiring with a record of 16-3-1-5 and $873,110 in earnings.
His sire Not This Time, a son of Giant’s Causeway, is one of the fastest-rising stallions in the U.S., commanding a $175,000 fee in 2024 at Taylor Made. He’s already the sire of champions like Epicenter and Up to the Mark, G1 winners Cogburn, Sibelius, Sacred Wish, Just One Time, Princess Noor, and graded winners Next, Gigante, Arzak, Shareholder, among others. He represents the Storm Cat male line, which has been tremendously successful in South America through sires like Giant’s Causeway, Shamardal, and Lope de Vega.
Simplification is out of Simply Confection (Candy Ride), who placed in the Rag to Riches Stakes (L) and also produced the stakes winner Chi Chi (Audible). His third dam is none other than the Hall of Famer Ashado (Saint Ballado), one of the greatest racemares of all time.
“We were approached by Roberto Vignatti, who really liked the horse and suggested we look into him,” said Ignacio Pavlovsky of Haras Carampangue. “I watched all 16 of his races and was impressed by his speed, consistency, and durability—he never got an easy trip. We traveled to the U.S. with Endrigo Gennoni to see him in person, and his conformation and his foals blew us away. Then RDI joined in—we already share Ivar (Agnes Gold)—and now the whole group is really excited. He’s got the looks, the pedigree—being out of a Candy Ride mare—and I’ve always loved Not This Time. A new stallion brings fresh energy, and we’re all very motivated for what’s to come.”
Simplification will shuttle between Carampangue and Pleasant Acres Stallions in Ocala, where he stands during the Northern Hemisphere season. With physical presence, a high-level pedigree, and a proven race record, Simplification checks all the boxes as a stallion prospect. All that remains now is for his first foals to carry the dream forward.
