Son of Maclean’s Music Tops Session Seven at Keeneland

The market remained strong at the start of Week 2, following an opening marked by impressive figures

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special for Turf Diario).- A colt by Maclean’s Music stole the spotlight during Session Seven of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, bringing a session-topping bid of $500,000 from Alex and JoAnn Lieblong Monday.
Consigned by Eaton Sales, the colt is out of stakes winner Athens Queen (Majestic Warrior).
By the end of the day, 279 yearlings had sold through the ring for gross receipts of $30,107,000, up 19.31% from the corresponding session in 2024, when 288 head realized $25,234,000. The average rose 23.16% to $107,910, while the median climbed 7.14% to $75,000.
Cumulative figures through seven sessions show 1,495 yearlings sold for $447,729,000, a 23.80% increase from $361,642,000 for 1,454 head sold during the same period last year. The running average now stands at $299,484 (+23.80%), with a median of $200,000 (+17.65%).
Three yearlings shared the second-highest price of the session at $475,000 each.
Kenny McPeek, acting as agent for Delta Squad Racing and BSW/Crow, signed for a Candy Ride (Arg) colt offered by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa. The colt hails from the family of champion Just F Y I (Justify) and Grade I winners Star Billing (Dynaformer), Stellar Jayne (Wild Rush) and Starrer (Dynaformer).
Pedro Lanz, signing as agent for KAS Stable, purchased two of the $475,000 offerings. The first was a colt by Gun Runner, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, from the family of GSW and sire Tom’s Ready (More Than Ready). Lanz also went to $475,000 for a colt from the first crop of Epicenter, consigned by Eaton Sales, out of a family that includes Grade I winner Salty (Quality Road).
Lanz finished as the day’s leading buyer, signing for five yearlings totaling $1,345,000.
Also of note, Bradley Thoroughbreds paid $425,000 for a colt by Good Magic, consigned by Nardelli Sales, from the family of multiple graded stakes-placed Street Girl (Street Hero).
Gainesway led all consignors on the day, selling 27 yearlings for $2,935,000.
