LA PLATA.- There was plenty to unpack in Sono Perfetto’s victory in Thursday’s Clásico José P. Ramírez (G3, 1700m, dirt) at La Plata, the traditional link between the first two legs of Argentina’s Triple Crown.

Absent from the Clásico Polla de Potrillos (G3), the Stud El Carcara runner returned to the Bosque oval to back up the good impression he had left when finishing a close second to Winston (Forge) in the Clásico Isidoro Aramburu (G3) a few weeks earlier.

The win also carried symbolic weight, providing champion Tetaze (Equal Stripes) with his first group winner at stud. The 2020 Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1) hero has been hampered by serious fertility issues, covering only a handful of mares each season at La Mission Robles.

It further extended the remarkable run of trainer Lautaro Balmaceda and owner Omar Labanca, a partnership that has made a near-weekly habit of starring in the country’s most competitive events.

Breaking sharply as the public choice, Sono Perfetto never looked back. He carved out quick splits—:24.60, :47.22, 1:10.87—while maintaining a length’s advantage over Nassau (Forge)First to Run (Daniel Boone), and Vampiro Zen (Zensational). Despite the demanding fractions, the chestnut kicked on strongly in the lane, holding sway by one length over Un Infierno (Dabster), with Big Capo (Capolicho) another two lengths back in third. The final time was a sharp 1:43.96.

Bred by Sergio O. Savi, the colt is the first foal out of Perfecta Soy (Perfectperformance), a full sister to G1 winner Perfecto Juez. With the victory, Sono Perfetto stamped his ticket to the Clásico Jockey Club de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (G2), where he will look to wrest the leadership of his generation from Winston.
