The formidable son of Into Mischief, recent winner of the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), will join the Darley Americaroster in 2027 with one of the premier stud fees in the market. Knightsbridge, his stablemate, will debut at $75,000

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (From a special correspondent).— Sovereignty (Into Mischief) has just capped an extraordinary racing career with his triumphant performance in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), but the impact of his career is already shifting toward the breeding shed. Darley America announced that the champion will begin his stallion career in 2027 at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky at an introductory stud fee of $150,000—a figure that reflects the massive expectations surrounding his future as a sire.

The announcement came shortly after his crowning moment at Keeneland, where the Godolphin homebred, trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Junior Alvarado, defeated The Puma (Essential Quality), with stablemate Knightsbridge(Nyquist) taking third. It was the ideal curtain call for a campaign that established him as one of the most formidable American racehorses of recent years.

Sovereignty was voted Horse of the Year and Champion 3-Year-Old Male in 2025, a season in which he swept the Kentucky Derby (G1), the Belmont Stakes (G1), and the Travers Stakes (G1). Rather than heading off to stud, he returned at age 4 to add the Whitney Stakes (G1) and ultimately the Classic, placing himself firmly in line for another Eclipse Award.

His victory on Saturday made him just the seventh Kentucky Derby winner in history to also capture the Breeders' Cup Classic, a feat not accomplished since Authentic (Into Mischief) in 2020. Before them, the rare double had been achieved only by Ferdinand (Nijinsky), Alysheba (Alydar), Sunday Silence (Halo), Unbridled (Fappiano), and American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile).

Yet Sovereignty holds an even more exclusive distinction: he is the only horse in history to unite victories in the Kentucky Derby, the Travers, and the Breeders' Cup Classic—three of the most grueling and prestigious contests on the American calendar. His stellar resume also boasts graded stakes wins in the Fountain of Youth (G2), the Jim Dandy (G2), and the Street Sense (G3), the latter coming during his juvenile campaign.

The raw power of his performances was consistently reflected in speed figures. In his 10-length runaway in the Travers, he earned a 115 Beyer Speed Figure, while his Whitney victory produced a 112. He retires to stud with career earnings exceeding $10.5 million.

Matching that exceptional racetrack record is a world-class pedigree. Sovereignty is by Into Mischief, one of the most dominant and influential stallions in modern American breeding, out of Crowned, a daughter of Bernardini. His second dam is Mushka (Empire Maker), winner of the Spinster Stakes (G1) and runner-up in the 2009 Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic (G1).

This potent mix of race record, speed, stamina, and female family explains why Darley placed him directly among their highest-tier roster.

The second major addition to Jonabell Farm is Knightsbridge (Nyquist), also a Godolphin homebred under Mott's care, who will stand for an introductory fee of $75,000.

A runaway winner of the Pacific Classic (G1) by 6 1/4 lengths and the Monmouth Cup (G3) by 10 1/4 lengths,Knightsbridge signed off with a brave third-place finish in the Classic after setting the tempo for much of the way. He is a half-brother to Speaker's Corner (Street Sense) and traces back to the family of Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1)heroine Round Pond (Awesome Again).

Darley will also offer lifetime breeding rights in both stallions for the first time during Monday's Fasig-Tipton November Sale in Lexington.

For Sovereignty, the transition comes at the pinnacle of his global acclaim. He leaves the track having won the races that define true greatness, and now faces his next major objective: transmitting that rare blend of class, stamina, and relentless competitive drive to future generations.
