The Juan Pablo Baeza-trained son of Constitution prevailed by three-quarters of a length over Frateli La Vita in the historic 2200-meter test

SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile (Special for Turf Diario).- In one of the most thrilling races of recent times on the local dirt, the favorite Spazzatura was crowned the new king of long-distance racing at Hipódromo Chile by winning the 2200-meter Gran Premio Hipódromo Chile, the first G1 of the season at the track. Thirteen horses took part in the historic event. This time, the Juan P. Baeza-trained colt kept close to the front runners, and once in the straight, he moved wide to establish himself as the likely winner, despite Frateli La Vita (Seeking the Dia) refusing to give in easily on the inside, setting the stage for a thrilling finale.
In the final meters of action and counteraction, Spazzatura got the job done with a three-quarters of a length advantage, securing his sixth consecutive stakes victory, two of which came in 2200-meter races. The Constitution-sired colt, bred at Haras Don Alberto, has now claimed the crown of long-distance racing.
Finishing 3 3/4 lengths behind, Yahshua (Good Samaritan) took third place, while Latour Cent (Goldencents) finished fourth, another 1 1/4 lengths behind.
With this victory, Spazzatura recorded his twelfth win in 23 starts, including eight stakes victories, extending his unbeaten streak to five and a half months. Defending the colors of Stud La Nonna Ltda., the bay was ridden by Oscar Ulloa, who celebrated his first victory in this prestigious race.
Also a winner of the Julio Castro Ruiz (G3), Pedro del Río Talavera (G3), and Julio Prado Amor (L) stakes, Spazzatura also finished second in the General José Miguel Carrera Verdugo (G3) and Preparación Luis Cousiño S.(G3).
He is the best offspring to date of the three-time winner Serenata Moderna (Stuka), a sister to the remarkable Trompolino (Stuka), who won the 2001 St. Leger (G1), as well as to the stakes-placed Caupolican (Stagecraft) and Estrella de Fuego (Stagecraft).
Another strong name in his maternal line is Serenata de Amor (Mocito Serio), who triumphed in races such as the Clásico Lisimaco Jaraquemada (L) in the early '90s.
Spazzatura continues to show unstoppable form in the long-distance races at Hipódromo Chile, enjoying the best moment of his career and promising even more success for his connections going forward.
