Yukon Jack, Camuflaje, Bank One and Enjoy Dancing Headline a High-Class Field on the Turf

Speed will have its moment in the spotlight this Sunday at Hipódromo de San Isidro, as part of the Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (G1) festivities, highlighted by the Clásico Santiago Lawrie (G3-1000m). This significant turf sprint serves as a key stepping stone toward the major events of the second half of the year, and it could also unveil contenders for next month’s Estrellas Sprint (G1) at Palermo.

With many of the division’s top runners focused on that upcoming event, the Lawrie will feature a compact field of nine, with no clear standout among them.

Yukon Jack (Remote) ran below expectations in the Gran Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires (G1), finishing sixth behind El Mejor Recuerdo (Il Campione), after a dominant eight-length triumph in the Clásico Estados Unidos de América (G3). He now returns to the track where he performed well in the Gran Premio Félix de Alzaga Unzué (G1), finishing just behind Arellano (Angiolo).

Drawing the farthest outside gate will be Camuflaje (Orpen), who was fifth in that Palermo race. On turf, he’s a different animal—his latest effort saw him chase down Bank One (Lenovo), who also lines up here, in the Clásico Juan Lapistoy, while carrying 60 kilos to Bank One’s 53—a detail not to be overlooked. At level weights, the result could well flip.

Three fillies are entered in the Lawrie, all with strong credentials. Enjoy Dancing (Hi Happy) edged out Durmia(Cityscape) by half a length in the Olavarría (G3), while La Meninha (Le Blues), the heavy favorite, ran a disappointing sixth—a result that could easily change in this context.

Hiran (Santillano) deserves mention among the contenders after winning the Clásico General Viamonte (G3) over the now-absent Filoso Class (Filoso Emperor), though he was narrowly beaten by the same rival in the Eduardo Jara, with margins between them consistently tight.

Rounding out the compact field are El Paradigma (Il Campione) and Say It Fast (Cosmic Trigger).
