Stats: May Shuffled the Deck and Sets the Stage for a Thrilling Second Half of the Season

With nine Grade 1 races held during the month, the rankings saw significant shifts: Easing Along dethroned Orpenamong broodmare sires, Firmamento sharply closed the gap with El Paraíso in the breeders’ standings, and Need You Tonight took the lead among horses following his victory in the República Argentina

With strong activity during May, the statistics compiled by the Argentine Stud Book showed some important changes in the key categories, such as Easing Along (Storm Cat) taking the top spot from Orpen (Lure) among broodmare sires; Haras Firmamento closing the gap significantly on El Paraíso, leader among breeders; and Need You Tonight (Hat Ninja) assuming the lead among horses after winning the Gran Premio República Argentina (G1), promising an exciting battle ahead in these rankings.

With six G1 races on May 1 and three more on May 25 at Palermo and San Isidro respectively, a lot of prize money was distributed, causing the different lists to show new data. However, among sires and stables there was no change at the top, with Il Campione (Scat Daddy) and Firmamento maintaining their leadership.

Talking about sires, Il Campione scored a double at the highest level with El Exito and El Mejor Recuerdo, bringing his earnings to ARS 541,064,425, maintaining a wide lead over Fortify (Distorted Humor), whose progeny have earned ARS 418,660,245. The one climbing steadily is Remote (Dansili), now at ARS 402,644,680 and just a couple of results shy of second place. Hi Happy (Pure Prize) and Cosmic Trigger (Lizard Island) complete the Top 5.

Among breeders, El Paraíso and Firmamento continue to add points in a tight fight, with the current tally at ARS 832,254,545 against ARS 772,498,882. More updates are expected for the next bulletin.

La Pasión holds a solid third place, while Abolengo and Vacación complete a ranking that is now almost memorized.

The victories of their grandchildren Need You Tonight and Roshita (Gouverneur Morris) on May 1 in the center catapulted Easing Along to the top of the broodmare sires list, displacing Orpen by just under ARS 65,000,000 pesos, another notable movement in the period.

In the category of stables, Firmamento consolidated its lead with over ARS 270 million in earnings and 33 wins, nearly doubling what Tinta Roja, always a contender, has accumulated so far. Behind them, Mamina is third, with Rodolfo Pedro fourth and Gran Muñeca fifth, the last two very close.

Finally, among horses, as mentioned, the victory of Need You Tonight in the República pushed his 2025 earnings to ARS 86,760,000, leaving El Exito second with ARS 60,035,000. The battle between the two will intensify at the end of the month with the Estrellas races, for which supplements will be paid.

Honest Boy (Heliostatic) also climbed after winning the 25 de Mayo and is now third, ahead of Crazy Talent (Equal Stalent) and Grezzo (Hi Happy), who had been leading until the previous cut-off.
