LA PLATA.- For Storm Sound (Hi Happy), La Plata might as well be home. The bay thrived once again over the eucalyptus-lined oval, rolling to an emphatic score in Saturday’s G3 Clásico Hipódromo de La Plata (1600m, dirt) to reassert himself as the region’s top middle-distance runner.

The Stud El Cárcara representative was nothing short of dominant, powering clear to defeat division leader Sabiyano (Fortify) by six lengths. The latter had entered the race off victories in the G3 Clásico 9 de Julio - Día de la Independencia and G3 Clásico General José de San Martín, but proved no match this time around.

Part of the key to Storm Sound’s latest success was patience. Jockey Lautaro Balmaceda settled his mount in third early while Sueño Turco (Remote) and Paraná Miní (Winning Prize) dictated terms. Advancing inside at the 1200-meter mark, Balmaceda gave Storm Sound more rein, and the son of Hi Happy steadily advanced to the front. Once in the stretch, he simply drew off, leaving his rivals behind.

At the wire, the margin was six lengths over Sabiyano, who lost ground when forced wide on the final turn but was never going to alter the outcome. Another half-length back, Notable Island (Lizard Island) finished third, with Monsieur Delon (Il Campione) and Indy Pro (Indygo Shiner) rounding out the top five. Final time was a sharp 1:37.55, after fractions of :25.25, :48.70 and 1:13.36.

Trained by Omar Labanca, who is enjoying a stellar season, Storm Sound was bred by Haras Carampangue and now boasts nine wins from 27 starts, including five at the stakes level, with career earnings topping ARS 65,000,000.

Looking ahead, the G2 Clásico Joaquín V. González on Nov. 19 looms as the next big target for the consistent and generous Storm Sound..
