Intrusión (Gouverneur Morris) had the Listed Asociación Cooperativa de Criadores SPC Ltda. at Palermo firmly in her grasp for 1,390 meters of the 1,400-meter journey, only to be collared on the wire by the relentless Stormy Summer (Nicholas), who prevailed by a head in a thrilling finish.

From the first crop of champion Nicholas (Equal Stripes), the Stud-Haras Carampangue homebred had hinted at this kind of ability when breaking her maiden second time out at San Isidro. She handled Palermo’s inner turf despite the notoriously poor condition of the course at the far turn, which once again proved hazardous for both horses and riders.

Settled in fourth for much of the running under Gonzalo Borda, Stormy Summer advanced turning for home while Intrusión set the pace, pressured by Mimos Grey (Zensational). Once straightened, the leader shifted to the outside and looked long gone, but Stormy Summer had one last surge. She quickened in the final 100 meters to nail her rival at the shadow of the post.

The final margin was a head, with favored Party Girl (Brz) (Outstrip {GB}) 2 1/2 lengths back in third. The final time was 1:27.69 over heavy ground.

A daughter of Stormy Spring (Orpen), Stormy Summer is a full-sister to Singapore Group 3 winner Storm Stroops and to Stormy Morning, dam of multiple graded winner Storm Sound (Hi Happy). With her pedigree and determination, the filly looks ready to stretch her talent into more significant middle-distance turf tests. Trainer Agustín Pavlovsky appears to have a raw diamond worth polishing.
