Strong Attractions at Palermo with the Eduardo Casey and Vicente L. Casares

Both major events are set to be the highlights of the week in Buenos Aires, scheduled for Sunday

The Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo finalized its next three racing programs on Tuesday, scheduled for Friday, October 3, Sunday, October 5, and Monday, October 6, with the weekend date set as the centerpiece.

Sunday’s card will feature two key stakes races: the Clásico Eduardo Casey (G2-2200 m, dirt) for three-year-olds, and the Clásico Vicente L. Casares (G3-2500 m, dirt) for horses four and older. The Handicap APHARA (1200 m, dirt), open to winners aged four and up, will provide a third high-profile event on the card.

In the lead-up to the Gran Premio Nacional (G1), the Casey will showcase Blue Caviar (Equal Stripes), coming off a victory in the Clásico Coronel Miguel F. Martínez (G3, 1800 m). Among those lining up against him are Cazador de Areco (Long Island Sound)Friends Are Friends (Cityscape)Hi Dolfi (Hi Happy)In the Island (In the Dark)Irish Coffee (Fortify)Nevado Catedral (Gouverneur Morris)Piu (Leofric)The Guantecito (Treasure Beach), and Uncle Moi (Uncle Mo).

Meanwhile, the Casares lost Demostrame (Endorsement) from its original entry, leaving a field of just four. G1 winner Treasure Island (Treasure Beach) is the clear favorite, facing Billion (Galicado)Endor Rye (Endorsement), and Valle Barun (Vástago Salvaje).

For the Handicap APHARA, nine runners were confirmed, with Despacito (Sabayón) carrying topweight of 61 kilos, one kilo more than Sonreime (Orpen).

The Buenos Aires week kicks off Friday, October 3, with the Handicap Star and Stripes (1400 m, dirt) for mares four and older, winners, featuring nine entries and Costa Dark (In the Dark) at 58 kilos as topweight. Monday, October 6, will feature the Handicap Alfonso L. Salvati (1000 m, dirt) for mares five and up, winners. Of six confirmed runners, Señora Bagaces (Lizard Island) carries the top impost of 57 kilos.

Over at San Isidro, in addition to the major events, Saturday will see the running of the Clásico Didia (1600 m, turf) for mares four and older under a weight-for-age scale. Same Treasure (Treasure Beach)Lancara (Manipulator)Adi Shakti (Lucullan)Lost Beach (Treasure Beach)Alambradora Si (Silentio), and Candlelit (Equal Stripes) are all set to compete.
