In a performance blending speed, grit, class, and stamina, Super Inter delivered one of the most important victories of his career Saturday on the dirt at the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, capturing the Clásico Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (L) for the second consecutive season over 1800 meters.

Now 7 years old and making the 37th start of his long career, the son of Super Saver returned to the winner’s circle for the first time in a year, and did so at the expense of none other than El Exito (Il Campione), the best middle-distance horse in Buenos Aires this season, who was stretching beyond the mile for the first time.

With Kevin Banegas riding with complete confidence, the chestnut from Stud Disco Eterno showed no hesitation taking command from the break, always fending off pressure from El Exito, the heavy favorite.

Their battle intensified into the stretch, where the public choice managed to edge ahead. But Super Inter fought back inside, reclaimed the lead late, and ultimately used his greater experience at the distance to defeat El Exito by a head.

Closing from the back, fellow 7-year-old Comando Secreto (War Command) finished third, 1 1/2 lengths behind, with another half length to Tamarisco Cat (Southern Cat). The final time was 1:50.90, after fractions of :26.16, :49.89, 1:13.36 and 1:37.37.

Trained by Nicolás Martín Ferro and bred by Haras Firmamento, Super Inter earned the 11th victory of his career, during which he has now accumulated more than 70 million pesos in earnings. Of those wins, eight have come at the stakes level: along with his repeat in the Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, he has also won the Carlos Gardel (L)and Irineo Leguisamo (L) twice each, in addition to the Italia (G3) and the Handicap Martinet.

Super Inter displayed every bit of his class for a resounding victory—against one of the toughest rivals he could have drawn.
