MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Special to Turf Diario) — Sí Señor (Señor Candy) is back. After a pair of uncharacteristic defeats that left fans questioning his dominance, the Haras La Concordia-bred standout rediscovered his peak form Sunday at Maroñas, capturing the Clásico Otoño (L) in commanding fashion. The victory secured a prestigious "double-event" for the Stud Los Dos color-bearer, who also claimed this 1600-meter test 12 months ago.

Coming off a runner-up finish to the 3-year-old Herr Kitten (Camelot Kitten) in the Gran Premio Pedro Piñeyrúa (G3) on January 6, and a disappointing subsequent loss to Quéhaces Tri Tri (Trinniberg), Sí Señor left no room for doubt this time. Sent off as the heavy favorite, the chestnut exacted a measure of revenge on Quéhaces Tri Tri—who faded to fourth, 16 lengths back—while drawing away to defeat Campeón Avenue (Sloane Avenue) by 3 1/2 lengths.

The clock stopped in a sharp 1m35.53s over a muddy dirt track. Under a confident ride by Vagner Leal, Sí Señor tracked the early pace set by Campeón Avenue before moving easily to the lead at the top of the stretch. From there, it was a one-horse race as the Jorge Rey trainee coasted to the wire without being fully extended.

"We are very happy, enjoying this with family and friends," said owner Federico Mattos during a winner's circle celebration filled with local youth. "He posted a spectacular time. I get the feeling he is back to his best level because he didn't look himself last time out."

With this victory, Sí Señor improves his impressive lifetime record to 10 wins from 19 starts—nine of those coming in stakes company. Having only finished out of the money twice in his career, he has once again solidified his status as the undisputed king of the Maroñas mile.
