LA PLATA – Even without being at his best, as Gonzalo Borda, his jockey, revealed after the race, Takeshi Frank had no trouble maintaining his leadership among the 2-year-olds at La Plata Racetrack.

After winning the Clásico Criadores Argentinos del Sangre Pura de Carrera (L), the Stud Pauli star stepped up to 1200 meters in the Clásico Agustín B. Gambier (G3) with the same efficiency, easily defeating the three rivals who faced him. Both Forgging (Forge) and Tricolor Pass (Distinctiv Passion) were non-runners.

Part of the first crop of the promising stallion Gidu (Frankel), the bay colt trained by Marcelo Sueldo and presented by Juan Pablo E. Díaz, battled for the lead with Dom Rui (Storm Embrujado) and Gryschin (Malenchini), setting solid fractions of 27.87 and 47.26.

As they entered the final stretch, he quickly opened up a gap, easily holding off a late charge from Lago Nahuel Huapí (Hurricane Cat), who stormed from last place to finish second, 3 lengths behind. Dom Rui came in third, 8 lengths further back, while Gryschin rounded out the field 1 1/2 lengths behind. The time was a respectable 1:12.28 over a normal track.

As mentioned, Gonzalo Borda was in the irons of Takeshi Frank, whose record now stands at 3 wins from 4 starts, with his only loss coming in the Clásico Congreve (L) at San Isidro, where he was narrowly defeated by The Great Cash (The Great Day), who just last weekend won the Clásico Santiago Luro (G2) at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, strengthening the line.

Bred by Haras Gran Muñeca, which had an impressive classic double, Takeshi Frank is the second foal of the nice sprinter Tarde o Temprano (Forestry), winner of the Clásico General Güemes (L) and with several other graded placings in her pedigree.

From the family of the unforgettable Team (Southern Halo)Takeshi Frank is setting the pace in the selective process at El Bosque, and while the challenges will grow, he appears to have the potential to stay on top in the future.
