Talented Hit seeks a repeat in the Reconquista, but Tiffony Mo poses a stern threat

SAN ISIDRO—The racing wheel turns back to Hipódromo de San Isidro this Friday with a card comprised mostly of low-level condition races. Aside from a pair of 3-year-old events on the dirt and the featured Clásico Reconquista (L), the day offers limited excitement.

The feature contest, open to horses 4 years old and up under handicap weights assigned by merit, brings together a field of seven over seven furlongs on the turf turn, featuring several proven, high-quality competitors.

Heading into the starting gates as the horse to beat is Talented Hit, who seeks a successful defense of the title he captured in this very race 12 months ago. The Stud Haras El Angel de Venecia homebred comes off a triumphant return from a layoff of over seven months, where he captured the Clásico Japón (L) on the Palermo turf.

The son of Hit It a Bomb carries the top weight of 61 kilograms and will face his sternest test in the unstoppable Tiffony Mo (60 kg), who arrives on a formidable five-race winning streak that includes triumphs in the Clásico Adolfo P. y Aníbal J. Giovannetti, Clásico Juan Carlos Etchechoury, and Clásico Gendarmería Nacional Argentina. The bar rises significantly this time for the son of champion El Moisés, who will almost certainly look to dictate terms from the front early on.

Adding further class to the line-up is Río New (Hurricane Cat, 58 kg), who won the Clásico Mesa del Senado (L) in dominant fashion back in mid-April before finishing fifth in both the Clásico Southern Halo (G3) and the aforementioned Japón, running below expectations on both occasions. Connections will look for the bay colt to regain his peak form.

The Great Jazz (The Great Day, 54 kg) carries a featherweight advantage compared to the top contenders and enters off an impressive allowance win where he defeated graded stakes performer Nuestro (Leofric). Although he previously finished behind Tiffony Mo, he has taken a clear step forward since that afternoon.

The unpredictable Bluclette Rim (Remote, 58 kg) is another expected to show early speed, though he failed to factor in the Clásico Japón, a key form reference for this race. Prior to that, he was runner-up behind Tiffony Mo in the Etchechoury, following a stakes victory from which he was subsequently disqualified due to a medication violation.
