Everything is set. The Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1), the second jewel of the national Triple Crown, now has its final list of entrants confirmed. With the only scratch being Friends are Friends (Cityscape) from the original roster, 10 three-year-old colts will go to post this Saturday over 2,000 meters at Hipódromo de San Isidro, competing for the trophy in one of the most historic classics of Argentine racing.

As previously reported, the series will be without a winner from the Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos (G1), as Gardel Pass (Distinctiv Passion), who had claimed that race at Palermo, suffered an injury and is likely out until next season.

With several top three-year-olds sidelined due to physical issues, the clear favorite is The Great Racing, a son of The Great Day trained by Juan Saldivia in Palermo. He will aim to reaffirm the excellent victory he secured a few weeks ago in the Gran Premio 2000 Guineas (G1) over a mile on turf.

Owned by Stud Patria Blanca, of Uruguayan Francisco Gallinal, he defeated Ardiendo (Remote) by 2 lengths, with Forging (Forge) finishing fourth. The latter two met again in the Clásico Ensayo (G3), where Forging prevailed by half a neck over Real Rim (Remote), who set the pace, with Ardiendo third by half a length. All three will be in the Jockey Club starting gate.

Another classic-level contender confirmed is Lago Nahuel Huapi (Hurricane Cat), who won the Clásico Luis María Doyhenard (G3) in La Plata earlier in the season and also boasts a couple of placings. After finishing eighth in the Polla, he now makes his first attempt on turf.

Jazzy Frank (Gidu), fourth in the Ensayo, will also line up, along with Brazilian Phanton (Outstrip)Señor Sandro (Cityscape)Speedtest (Cityscape), and Todo Cambia (Mootsadir).

The Gran Premio Jockey Club offers a total purse of ARS 120,000,000, with ARS 60,000,000 to the winner. Placings will be paid as follows: ARS 21,000,000 to second; ARS 12,000,000 to third; ARS 7,800,000 to fourth; ARS 6,600,000 to fifth; ARS 5,400,000 to sixth; ARS 4,200,000 to seventh; and ARS 3,000,000 to eighth.

The total entry cost per horse is ARS 2,400,000, meaning the Hipódromo de San Isidro collected ARS 24,000,000, which, as customary, will not be added to the purse. As usual for G1 contests, all participants must pass pre-race veterinary checks.

The Gran Premio Jockey Club will headline a card that also features the Gran Premio San Isidro (G1-1600 m, turf)Gran Premio Suipacha (G1-1000 m, turf), and the Clásico Doria (1600 m, turf).

Starting gate draws for the three G1s will take place today, with post times to be announced this afternoon.

A new edition of the Jockey Club is coming—a race steeped in history and one that always, without fail, shakes the foundations of Argentine racing.
