The daughter of Lucullan surged to the forefront of the Uruguayan juvenile division with her classic triumph, while Es Patriarca dominated the male counterpart in the companion feature for colts

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay— Anchoring a high-profile card of stakes racing, the Argentine-bred filly Sweet Feelemerged as a rising star within the juvenile division at Hipódromo Nacional de Maroñas, delivering a authoritative performance to capture the Gran Premio Criterium Potrancas (G2) over 1,400 meters on a fast dirt track.

The daughter of Lucullan and the Catcher In the Rye mare Catch the Feel stepped up in distance beautifully after hitting the board with consecutive fourth-place efforts in the Clásico Eduardo A. Pons and the Clásico Domingo Torterolo, both contested at five and a half furlongs. Ridden to victory by Pablo Rodríguez, she drew clear late to defeat Lavivid (Vivid Imagination) by two lengths, while heavy post-time favorite Cayetana (Sloane Avenue) could do no better than fourth, finishing three and a half lengths behind the winner.

Trained by Pablo González for the Haras Marnu stable, the Julio Alberto Amud-bred filly stopped the clock in a solid 1:25.69.

Reflecting on Sweet Feel’s breakthrough triumph, winning conditioner Pablo González noted: "It is always difficult to map out a plan and have everything align perfectly, but this time everything unfolded exactly as we anticipated. We encountered some minor tactical misfortune in her previous start, but we had the confidence to back her up here and she responded like a high-class filly."

One race prior, the male counterparts faced off in the Gran Premio Gran Criterium (L) at seven furlongs on the main track, where market favorite Es Patriarca proved superior. The son of Awesome Patriot and the Bernstein mare Stormy Kindly shook off his rivals to score a 2 1/2-length victory over Petkovic (Kentuckian). Campaigned by Stud Compac and bred by Haras Los Nenes, the Roberto Solanés trainee was guided by jockey Waldemar Maciel, crossing the wire in 1:24.21.

The stakes action commenced early on the program with the Clásico Asociación de Criadores de SPC (L) over 1,200 meters. The fleet-footed Grandinata (Trinniberg) validated her brilliant sprint form, though she was forced to dig deep to hold off a determined Agostina (Texas Fever) by a neck at the wire.

Additionally, the minimum five-furlong trip took center stage in the Clásico Reapertura del Hipódromo Nacional de Maroñas (L), where Ramirito (Trinniberg) proved best, flashing sharp early foot to defeat Comandante Rapha (Comandante Dodge) by 1 3/4 lengths.
