Back on the dirt, the son of Fortify bred by Haras Vacación romped to an 8 1/4-length victory in the Clásico Bartolomé Puigross

VALPARAÍSO, Viña del Mar (Special to Turf Diario).— Back on the dirt track after some disappointing efforts in top-flight company, the Argentine-bred sophomore Presley found redemption at Valparaíso Sporting, demolishing his rivals in the Clásico Bartolomé Puigross (1300m), the opening leg of the Local Triple Crown for three-year-olds.

Bred by Haras Vacación, the son of the outstanding sire Fortify led a absolute sweep for the powerhouse team of owner Carlos Saavedra's Stud Los Leones and trainer Ximeno Urenda, cruising to an 8 1/4-length victory over his stablemate Lamotta (Valid Point). Another stable companion, Volturi (Valid Point), crossed the wire in fourth, while only Guerrero Real (Sahara Spirit) in third prevented a complete podium sweep for the dominant duo. Adding a distinct Argentine flavor to the triumph, veteran jockey Pedro Robles was in the irons, showing he remains as sharp as ever.

After breaking slowly from the gate, Presley made steady progress along the rail while his stablemate Lamotta set the pace, a task made easier after jockey Sebastián González fell from Flaca Dany (Spun to Run) shortly after the start.

Once they turned into the home straight, the eventual winner launched his bid, easily catching Lamotta before drawing away under hand urging to stop the clock in 1m23s60/100 over a fast track.

Presley had failed in his four previous stakes attempts on both turf and dirt, although it was on the main track where he had broken his maiden in mid-March. Having also run on the dirt at Hipódromo Chile, he remains undefeated on Valparaíso Sporting's dirt track.

The colt is the second foal out of the Grade 2-placed mare Islandina (Lizard Island), whose granddam is the legendary sprinter Spiny (Ringaro), an iconic representative of the historic Haras La Quebrada.

The local series will continue on August 19 with the running of the Clásico Nicolás Canessa Montt, before concluding on September 23 with the Clásico Gustavo Rivera Baeza.
