The first major stakes for 2-year-olds on the San Isidro turf confirmed a trend: small fields. The Clásico Islas Malvinas (L), also for juveniles, was confirmed with only 4 runners

The majority of juvenile stakes held this season in Argentina have featured small fields, a trend that has now reached a definitive turning point. San Isidro confirmed this Tuesday that only 4 colts will start in next Sunday's Clásico Raúl y Raúl E. Chevalier (G2, 1400m), while just 6 fillies will contest the Clásico Eliseo Ramírez (G2, 1400m), the first major grass tests of the selection process.
Despite yearlings being marketed earlier than ever, this phenomenon persists. The cause seems clear: a sharp decline in foal crops combined with an oversupply of these races, as it is impossible to sustain three simultaneous selection processes. Nevertheless, management at San Isidro, Palermo, and La Plata has remained idle, making no adjustments.
In the shortest Chevalier in history, the field consists of: Cardo Castilla (Strategos), Mask May (Mask), Recuerdos Pass (Distinctiv Passion), and Sam Bushido (Pneumatic).
The Ramírez starters include: Deep Feeling (Seahenge), Full Question (Full Mast), Gota Clara Sos (Made You Look), Marynda (Master of Hounds), Risitas Pass (Distinctiv Passion), and Sally Ride (Señor Candy).
Gota Clara Sos was also confirmed for the Clásico Fortunato Damiani (G3) on Tuesday the 7th at La Plata. She must start at San Isidro to remain eligible for the Ramírez, barring a late track scratch in the former.
Additionally, this Friday's feature at San Isidro, the Clásico Islas Malvinas (L, 1000m), also drew a small field. Capavolta (Made You Look), Pasión del Alma Pass (Distinctiv Passion), Siete Lagos (Full Mast), and Sixties Pen (Sixties Icon) will compete for the win.
On Wednesday, April 8, only the Especial Rico (1800m, dirt) will run, as the Handicap Ante Diem (1400m, dirt) was canceled with only 4 ratifications. The Especial, for 5-year-olds and up with at least 3 wins, features Quality Boy (Asiatic Boy, 58 kg) and the consistent Atomic Trigger (Cosmic Trigger, 62 kg) as high weights.
