The son of Il Campione will once again face Despacito, whom he finished 4 1/2 lengths behind in the Clásico Jorge A. Ricardo

An interesting meeting awaits this Sunday at Hipódromo de San Isidro, where several of the races will feature small fields, a trend that has become increasingly common on the major tracks.
The race with the fewest horses in the starting gate will be the most significant. This is the Clásico Río de la Plata (L-1200m, turf, diagonal), a handicap for 3-year-olds and older, which has attracted only 4 participants—an absolute rarity given that this is the distance where the most races are held.
The winner will take home a prize of 5,600,000 pesos (probably best not to calculate the deductions...), and this presents the ideal opportunity for the consistent Rugiente (Il Campione) to make the most of his class and experience, despite carrying the maximum weight of 59 kilos.
Trained by Luis S. Bedoya, Rugiente most recently finished fourth behind El Mejor Recuerdo (Il Campione) in the Clásico Jorge A. Ricardo, but before that, he had posted consecutive wins in the Clásicos Revista Palermo and Jorge Valdivieso, not to mention his earlier victories in the Clásico Domingo Torterolo and the Handicap Snow Gambler.
Always running in sync with the rhythm of the race, in the tribute to Brazilian jockey Jorge A. Ricardo, Rugiente finished 4 1/2 lengths behind Despacito (Sabayón, 58), who placed second, and the two will meet again.
A veteran of the track, Despacito, at 7 years old and with 12 wins under his belt, will look to find the race conditions that suit him best. Whether he needs to press Rugiente or wait for the right moment, he’s prepared for both.
In good form and benefiting from the youthful advantage of his 3 years, Suarium (Manipulator, 55 1/2) and Pulmón de Acero (Daddy Long Legs, 53 1/2) will try to challenge the experienced rivals based on their potential and expectations.
Suarium recently defeated Lightning Net (Le Blues) by 2 1/2 lengths in a tough conditional race at Palermo, while Pulmón de Acero comes off a victory in an alternative category, having also competed in a solid race.
Despite the heat, San Isidro offers an exciting spectacle to enjoy this Sunday.
